Should I comment on a blog like this to just build a link?

If I see a great blog with PR 4-5 but comments are not moderated on that blog. I see hundreds or thousands comments on every post of that blog and most of the comments are spam. Should I comment on that blog just to build a link?

  • Commenting on it shouldn't do any harm - if the page has a high PageRank it will probably help in your backlinking efforts.

    If you do comment - make sure you say something relevant and helpful, not just some generic comment like "nice post!".
  • I don't know this to be a fact, but I'm pretty sure that the higher PageRank gets mitigated if there are a ton of outbound, do-follow links. It's definitely less effective than if there were only a couple of links, yours being one of them. It won't hurt, but the benefit is questionable, I believe.
