Yeah, sites dance all the time until they settle down. This happens more when you a making a lot of changes such as at the beginning of a site's life. Once you've settled into adding regular content and consistently building your backlinks, it'll likely calm down until the next algo shift.

In the first month to 6 weeks, things dance as Google adjusts. After that, watch it monthly and keep an eye on it. But don't obsess unless it plummets and doesn't recover at all.

SEO is all about slow and steady.

My site is dancing like crazy right now. Over 100 pages of unique quality content written by me and adding more. Backlinking campaign began and it went from 80 to 40 or so for 5 keywords. Then it dropped to 300, then back to 80. Then it completely disappeared in scroogle. Then two keywords came down to the teens while others moved to 300. Now those in the teens are in the 70's. the others 300 and 100.

All in a week and a half. It's crazy. But I'm patient.

I would suggest you examine just your site, your pages, and make sure that your site complies with Google webmaster guidelines.

Hmm. My gut wonders if the backlink campaign did something negative. Not quite sure how, but if you had good content and steady rank in the 80s and then this apocalypse, it sounds like an external factor is affecting Google's measurement of rank.

Take a look at the various components of ranking - on-site and off-site - and see if anything seems questionable. You said you started some backlinking. What kind of links? Did you lose any of them after Google indexed them?

You could also beef up your internal linking. You've got enough pages there to work with, I'd think.

But my gut says something changed for the negative to get that much flux.
