Outranking 1st Page Sites

Hi All,

I started up a niche site (modeling for kids dot net) nearly four weeks ago and have been working on adding content, SEO, and back linking ever since.

Using Market Samurai I can see that I "beat" the first result on Google for the key phrase "modeling for kids" on all relevant factors bar PR (although it is only a PR 1) - i.e. index count, no. of referring domains, no. of backlinks, and meta information. I have checked out their back links and they are not particularly powerful at all, with an awful lot of them coming from the same site.

I believe that I have quality content and am writing three new articles a week. So what more should I do? Is it a case of simply being patient and waiting for Google to sit up and take note?

    Unfortunately or fortunately there is no end in better google ranking area. This is what makes SEO the most interesting and alive area I'm familiar with.
    You need continual working for link building, creating fresh content, and competing your opponents.

    Keep doing what you're doing and perhaps spending $5 on a fiverr 20 .edu package will be a nice investment on a monthly basis until you achieve your #1 ranking for the desired keywords. What will happen if you increase the article creation to 5 a week instead of 3? A conservative increase that could not hurt. Give it a thought.

    Yep, just keep backlinking. 4 weeks is nowhere near enough time to expect good rankings (although it does happen sometimes). Give it 3 months at least, and you'll probably be in a great position if your site and links are a lot better than what's currently ranking.

      Forgive me, I don't use Market Samurai. Does it cover on-page SEO? If not, make sure your ON-PAGE seo is also set up properly

      Backlinks ARE important, but SO many people (even in this post) discount ON-PAGE seo which is equally if not MORE important than backlinking to your site.

      On Page SEO Basics:
      • Title/Description/keywords matching your MAIN keyword
      • h1/h2/h3 matching your keyword
      • include your keyword in the first AND last sentence
      • Make your keyphrase density about 3-5%, no more, no less
      • make sure one image on your post/page is named according to your image (ie: keyword.jpg) and add an ALT tag that matches that keyword too.
      • Do one link from that page to ANOTHER page WITHIN your site with the anchor text as your keyword
      Being that your site is showing excerpts of posts, I'd recommend adding a NEW post to the very bottom of the index page. You can just add the content within the HTML, if you're comfortable doing this. This way, no matter how many new articles you add to the main page, you'll have this one on the INDEX page still speaking strongly towards your keywords.

      Give it a shot, you'll be surprised how it works.

      OH - if you dont like how this LOOKS - you can always add it at the bottom in an expanding div (How to expand collapse (toggle) div layer using jQuery ). This is NOT hidden from google or human eyes,and WILL NOT get you dinged either.

      Site looks great, but give this a shot - build some content (350-450 words) around your main keyword using the above guidelines, drop it in the bottom, give it a week and see how much your site ranking improves.

      You can check your competitor's backlinks using SEO Spyglass and see if you can get links from the same sources. Google has already determined these backlinks have authority in your niche, so if you get the same backlink profile, you have a good chance to outrank your competitor.

    A few high PR backlinks + Edu and Gov backlinks will go a long way.

    Just remember that high PR means high PAGE rank- not site rank! One blog may have a post with a PR of 3-4, but every other post is PR 0
