Hey guys,

I am going to start a new site and have been doing some keyword research this evening.

I have found a keyword phrase that google keyword tools says gets 22,200 hits a month and it also says that it has low competition.

I have searched the term in google and here was the results

KEYWORD PHRASE - 'About 98,900,000 results'
"KEYWORD PHRASE" - 'About 5,160,000 results'
allintitle:"KEYWORD PHRASE" - 'About 183,000 results'

The fron page at the moment you have:

#1 wikipedia
#2 science.howstuffworks.com
#3 hubpages.com
#4 YouTube Vid

Obviously I don't want to share what the keyword phrase actually is, but from the information that I have provided, do you think that this is competitive or not?

I have checked godaddy and 'KEYWORDPRHRASE.INFO is available.

This is also a topic that I find interesting, where my last project I didn't really.

What are your thoughts?

My thoughts? I'd need to know what kind of quantity and quality of backlinks your first page competition has. Especially the Hubpage and the Youtube vid. If those two are ranking without any significant backlinks, then you may be on to something. I don't consider a Youtube video with few if any backlinks to be much competition.

Granted, I'm used to working with more data though, so my opinion is only that. An opinion.

One more thing. Is this a buyer keyword? That can definitely have an effect on your monetization model as well as its potential.

      Hey Danny...

Thanks for getting back to me

The YouTube Video has 2 backlinks and the Hubpage has 15.

The keyword is a 'how to' keyword phrase.

      Hope this makes it clearer.

I have actually gone ahead and brought the .org domain for this keyword this evening.

    You're very welcome, burtie.

Best of luck with this keyword. I bet you'll dominate.

With that few backlinks to go up against I'm sure you'll do very well (yes, this only shows 2 out of 10 competitors, but still).

Feel free to pm me if you ever have more keyword research questions.

    22,200 ESPM? Are you sure?

For the love of god, make sure you have your search volume set to EXACT and not BROAD.

Its so easy to make this mistake and its painful when you do get it wrong!

You will have to give us the keyword you want to rank for if you want an "accurate answer"

Go and do some research on what type of "ANCHOR" your competitors are using in their backlinks.

If they are not anchoring that specific keyword much then it shouldn't be too difficult.

      I live and learn James!

Still going to go for them 73 as a learning curve. Just done some more keyword reseach (the way its meant to be done) and found 5 keywords that have a total of 16,000 global searches. Traffic Travis says that they are relatively easy, so going to get some articles up on the site tomorrow and start optimizing for them.

      Wish me luck

Bertie, you say you are interested in the subject. You are knowledgeable about "keyword phrase"? Maybe you live and breathe "keyword phrase". So do it! Who cares how many people search for it. Who cares about competing sites about the subject? Sounds like you'd be happy to create a site about it. That competition you see by the way in the keyword tool is relative and is the number of Adwords advertisers using the keyword, nothing to do with the number of sites.
