Is This Too Much Competition For This Niche?

I came across an available domain (both .com and .net). It's in the craft niche..... howtomakeablankblank . A 6 keyword domain.

Google keyword tool shows 4,400 exact match monthly searches.
Google search in quotation marks reveal 205,000 results. Most of the first page is Youtube videos showing how it's done (page rank 3's and 0's)

Is this a possible winner? I'm wondering if the 205,000 is too much to compete with. I'm just surprised the domain name was available.

What about PPC? Anyone advertising? Is it a profitable niche?

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

Good point! I just checked and there were no ads on the side! However I did google blankblankcraftbooks, and there were a few. Maybe not profitable enough to go after?

give it a try., I think you can win the competition if you can come up with the better SEO campaign compared to current #1 sites for that term. Plus, you get an exact domain name, why don't just give it a try?

    The "205,000" is completely irrelevant.

If you want to compete for the keyword, you have effectively only 5 competitors (or 7 or 8, if you like), and those are listings 1 - 5/6/7/8 on the first page of Google's SERP's. All that really matters is the quality of their SEO and your own assessment of whether you can get up there among them.

Who cares whether they're followed by 995 others, by 204,995 others or by 9,999,995 others? Those aren't relevant to you.

Should be easy to rank for... as long as you can monetise it.
assuming there are buyers keywords... they might be freebie seekers

Why not go one step above?

Sure there's how to make xxx xxxx. I'm sue if you do more research you can find alot more keywords that are similar to that.

Then you can register a domain of choice without worrying so much about keywords, and create an authority site that targets that one keyword you intially found and all the others. the domain can be keywordhub.com or keywordcentral.com or something like that.

Rather than writing yourself. Find a good article writer. I pay mine $12 per 500 words. I must have gone through scores of writers, until i found this gem that can offer indept research and quality.

In an about 3 - 4 months, you'll be rolling in dough.

Just my .02cent. I chased many low hanging fruit before I realised that is worth it to go after keywords with moderate to high competition.

Thanks for the feedback folks. Now, for me the question has moved from "is this too much competition", to "can I monetize this". Should I be hesitant, given the fact that there aren't any Google ads for that key phrase, and just a few, for the slightly broader craft niche?

I'd say so, especially the .com. Now if that niche itself is profitable? I dunno.. But the .com exact phrase should pwn those YouTube videos over time.

So, not having done this before, I'm wondering if monetizing could be done with amazon affiliate links to various craft supplies, books, etc...

Or, I could maybe try selling the domain on Sedo?

I'm not really into crafts, in fact I came upon this keyword phrase while looking something else (totally different) up!

Not sure what direction to go in. But, when I saw that domain name available with a 4,400 exact match search result, I got interested. You can tell I'm somewhat of a newbie here!

        I don't do Amazon anymore, so I can't say.

If you can afford the 10 bucks to get the domain, go for it.

If you're short on money I don't recommend going into debt to get it, unless YOU KNOW exactly what to do with it.

I would not expect it to generate much so keep looking.

This is one of the reasons I've went into the adult niches.

Profitable phrases and domains are still available.

No this is not too much competition at all. With a little bit of SEO and some consistent backlinking your should do absolutely fine.

Are you able to sell those craft books that you mentioned? Check places like Amazon and see what the sales are like for products related to your niche. Is there a magazine dedicated to this particular craft? If things like that are lining up, then I predict profit in your future.

yes if you think it is popular people are spending money here.

I hate when people say not going into that niche, too over crowded.

It is overcrowded for a reason. i.e. people are spending money on that niche.

Why not jump infront of the money train, and take your slice of the pie. No?

      Thanks guys.

Yes, I can afford to buy domain(s)

I'm not sure how profitable it would be. Like I said, there were no Google ads on the side, so does that mean it's not profitable?

What other ways can I check to see if it's a profitable niche?

I'm in the crafts niche...but I don't go after anything with less than 5,000 exact searches. It doesn't seem like much competition, but doesn't seem like a whole lot of interest either.
