Question on 301 redirects

I have a page ranking in google with the following URL:

http://domain.com/keyword/index.html

I have been backlinking to the following URL:

http://domain.com/keyword/

Should I now 301 redirect http://domain.com/keyword/ to
http://domain.com/keyword/index.html ?

Or doesn't it matter? Or is by default 301 redirected?

  • normally it should not matter, but if you want to be on the safe side, just use the 301.
