My Link Appeared on Every Page After Commenting?

Hi, I am fairly new to SEO and had a question. I commented on a blog and put my name and website. A week later I realized I was receiving a backlink for every page under that blog's domain. Sadly, there was over 3000 different pages and now my page is sandboxed in Google for getting 3000 links in one day.

How did this happen and how can I avoid it in the future??

  • It happened because the blog would have had a 'Recent Comments' tyoe widget in the sidebar of the site.

Why do you think you are in a sandbox?

    • I like to call those artificial links..

They will disappear over time, I believe Google is aware of this. Doubt you'll get sandboxed the links are all coming from just 1 domain. If you do get sandboxed, just wait it out - you'll be fine.
    • I think I am because my site dropped from the number 2 ranking to on the 6th page for my keyword.

It also may have dropped because I changed the content around and changed hosting. I guess I will see if it starts rising again.
  • I'd seriously doubt your site has been sandboxed.

I wrote an article on this behaviour which I termed "The Backlink Bungy Effect"

  • What changes were made to the content?
Did the permalinks remain the same?

    • No just about everything was changed.
  • 99.99% sure Google didn't sandbox you because of this. Otherwise, potentially millions of other websites would be sandboxed for the same thing. A lot of blogs have a "recent comments" section on all of their pages. No need to worry IMO.
