How many keywords do you guys usually try to rank per site?
Right now I have a new WP blog, ranked pretty well with 1-2 keywords, its about a product i am selling.

I am wondering if i should create another WP-page for my 3rd keyword, with a exact match domain etc.?

Will that be easier?

Limit your keywords to correspondant pages. There is no keyword limit per _site_ . But there is definitely keyword limit per _page_. Atmost two keywords per page.

It somewhat depends on how closely related the keywords are. Most of my niche sites usually target around 10 keywords if I can find a good group to go after. If I can not find at least five I do not bother as a general rule and some of my sites have 20+ so the more the merrier in my book.

Mostly work for long tail keywords first to gain some visitors and then look for two to three short term keywords.

First, sites are not ranked, pages are.

A site can have unlimited pages/posts..basically.

Each of those sub-pages can rank as well or better than a new, separate SITE.

For example, you could make a weight loss site and have hundreds (if not thousands) of pages, covering all kinds of subjects and keywords as long as they fit in the "weight loss" category.

One of my sites is ranking on the first page of Google for 10 very competitive keywords. You just have to make sure the on site optimization is good & then get high quality, dofollow backlinks using your targeted keywords as anchor text.

I agree with the above poster, on page SEO is vital is you want to rank for multiple KWs.

I generally start off by targeting 5 KWs that I want to rank for and often write an individual post for each article unless the KWs are VERY similar.

Once I have gotten these onto page 1 I then go after other KWs that are closely matched to my niche.

It seems to be working as yesterday I got 234 unique visits to one of my niche sites after consistent backlinking for about 2 months!
