Please learn your trade before you offer services to others. I wouldn't want someone like you repairing my car.. With that being said,

That many links could sandbox your client's site. Tell him to wait it out or give him a refund. He could be experiencing a Google Dance.

There is no "limit" but Google obviously has an internal limit which I would guess would have to be anywhere from 50-100 a day. However, I believe they take into consideration circumstances when a website gets temporary links such as ones syndicated from "recent comments" section on blogs.

With that said, I would say create no more than 50 "different domain" backlinks. Personally, I would make even less. When it comes to building links, for the most part, less is more.

I would count this as a 'Google Dance' which is very normal after massive link building.

Well there's nothing wrong with the quantity of links you built IMO but more the quality.

You NEED to be building a variety of different links from a variety of different sources. From research I have done Google LOVES this and your sites will stick in the SERPs.

      • This is normal, especially after building lots of links. It's referred to as the Google Dance. Keep building high quality, dofollow backlinks and you will soon see that the site will rise higher than it was before.

Link velocity is a factor in SEO. Google sees a zillion affiliate sites a day going up for the "quick buck" and then disappearing. Their goal is to serve up quality, sustaining sites, therefore consistent link building "looks more natural" as opposed to a quick burst of links, and then nothing.

First, manage your clients expectations and don't over promise. Next, build diversity in your backlinks and focus on fundamentals (e.g. different "types" of backlinks), correct anchor text, link to deep pages not just home page, and have perfect onsite optimization (don't be lazy here). And, as suggested, keep building backlinks to get it back in rankings.

Most importantly, don't ever promise first page of Google or any kind of promise that it will stay there. This is why good SEO companies/consultants have a "maintenance" package after the agreed upon term to keep the rankings there.

Good for you for taking action though.

Wait for a week and hopefully it will be back. Meanwhile ask your client to add some fresh content to its site, it will help.

    Thanks

Sounds like google dance to me, just keep building quality backlinks from different sources (web 2.0s, article directories, forum profiles, blog comments, social bookmarks etc). Keep building these backlinks consistantly and the site should get back to page 1 again
