It does, but there is a major point I want to make about this and I can't stress how important this is.. A new site that is just stuffed to the gills with duplicate content will NOT do as well as a site that has some kudos in the eyes of Google which also uses duplicate content.

In all my testing, if I have a site that has mainly original content and has earned some trust from google after a few months. If I have done everything else right according to the webmaster guidelines then I can use duplicate content and expect it to do well in the SERPS. This is a very important point about using content from the directories.

Steve, do you think the income will still grow or at least stay stable if you stop updating the blog and stop off page work like submitting articles and doing link building and such ? Or by stopping you will allow some competitors to beat you with getting more back links?

I have just checked myself and yes it has risen in the rankings again but its on page 2 of Google for me.. I guess it depends on your location and Google data centre. However, I have seen some significant increases in traffic as a result of this latest rise.

These are real everyday people that took the time to learn and apply the knowledge of making money online. This article will inform you about the strategies you can use to earn money without needing a website.
There are still many ways you can make money online without needing to have your own website. The best way is to take part in affiliate marketing. Basically what you will be doing is taking other people's products and selling it for them. You get a commission based off sales or other parameters that are set up with the affiliate program.

Everyday people are making a killing online doing this. In order to generate as much income as possible you need to generate as much targeted traffic as possible to the affiliate sales page. You can drive traffic to sites in a number of different ways.
Article Marketing is a proven technique used to generate traffic to sites. You can write articles about or relating to the product which have a link for customers to click on at the end of the article. You can then submit your articles to the numerous article directories on the internet to bring exposure to your articles.

Forum marketing is another proven technique used to generate traffic to sites. You can make money online easy by taking part in forums and providing helpful information to members. Put your affiliate link in your signature so that when you post in a thread people can click your link. If you're an active member you will have your link posted and archived everywhere on the forum and create a loyal following of your ideas and opinions.
These two traffic techniques are nice because the only thing it cost to implement is your time. But if your time is valuable then maybe you should look into paid advertising like pay per click.
Pay per click services such as Google AdWords are very good at getting instant traffic to your affiliate sales page and making commission. You will want to track and tweak your Ad campaigns to get to the point where you're making more money than spending.

You can easily market affiliate products without a website using these strategies and make money online easy. One thing that you have to remember is that it doesn't matter which strategy you choose. What matters is the work that you put into the strategy to profit. It's not possible to just sit and do nothing and expect money to start rolling in. Get up and take action and do whatever it takes to be achieving your goal to be successful.
Well, what was the thought behind having this one posted here? I could not make the head or tail of the motivation and relevance of this post with this great thread!

All depends on the history of the domain, also all PR is lost once the domain is expired. The backlinks are definitely a good thing (so long as they are good neighborhoods). Given the choice between an expired domain or a good domain bought at sitepoint for example then the second option is the best. It can be a bit of a minefield though and you need to be sure about what you are doing.

Steve,

Very smart the way you dispose your ads above the fold. I saw that you used another colour for your ads and wonder if your CTR produces better than the traditional colour.

One negative comment is the translator. As I speak 5 languages I checked some of the translations and most of it doesn't make any sense. Personally I would never use it, but hey maybe it produces some ad money.

Btw, I saw that you're on the first page now, which is fantastic.

I'll bet you will reach the $100 mark in a few months.

Great job!

I've just spend the past hour reading the blog related to this challenge and it's been an immense eye opener. The majority of methods I already know but it's nice to see it put to paper and see it laid out in steps. I'm sure this will help others greatly.

Are you going to share the url now the challenge is over?

steve with all the traffic that you are getting from this blog - why not offer us a really cool wordpress theme complete with link backs to your site that we can use and provide you with backlinks
Just curious, doesnt having a blog in a expensive keyword high converting clicks niche guarantee you more money.
Cheers Nick.

I won't stop with this blog as this my whole philosophy as to why I disagree with having hundreds of sites is because you can never give them the attention they deserve. Having a limited number of good quality sites that are easy to grow and control is the very important. So just to point out, I am not stopping but I have slowed down the rate of posts and backlinking.

This is an area where I disagree with Steve. Some of my biggest earning Adsense sites haven't seen attention for a year or more, other than occasional link building. They get good traffic and have good earnings.

I also have a large number of sites, some Adsense, some using other monetization methods. Some are blogs, either WordPress or Blogger based, while others are various types of HTML or PHP mini-sites. I like having the wide portfolio of keyword targeted sites rather than trying to limit my efforts to small number of markets.

Either method, few sites or many, will work though. It's just a matter of what you're able to manage well. You've got to know where your skill sets lie and how to apply them to your online business.

I have to agree as well. I have some 3 year old small content sites that I haven't touched in more than 2 years and they still continue to provide good solid earnings month after month. This is one of those areas that can work either way and there is no wrong or right method.

Maybe there is a way in between when you know what works better for you. I mean giving every single project some time and dedication until it stands up then move on to another.

Look like a strategy to follow.

I think I just need to clarify that when I refer to a few sites I mean as opposed to building lots of rubbishy automated type sites where you are not even remotely aware of the content on those sites.

If you are confident that you can "control" 10, 100 or even 500 sites and know exactly what content you have on each and how you promoted them then you go for it!

I have been reading on the topic for quite a time. I have my own blog which is earning $4 to 6 per day on the average. I was not expecting the sucess...

I would love to make it earning more than $100 daily. I am sure the technique will work on existing blogs..

I was reading your post about blogging to reach $100 per day in three months, and noticed it stopped in January. Were you ever able to reach that goal? How did it turn out? I really appreciate all the helpful information.

Wonderful thread so far and many ideas discussed. Currently my philosophy has been similar to bgmcaw's as I find that several of my sites still make small returns even though I have spent no more time on them in the last few years. For me as long as the site's pay for the hosting and then some then I'm happy to let them run. However, I have recently been considering building higher quality sites that can be turned to affiliate sales, adsense or other models.

Hi Steve,

My goal is to earn income from Adsense too, but to make $100 a day to need a lot of traffic and a lot of pages to keep readers stay longer in your site.

Anyway I'm looking forward to see your next step.

Cheers!

Dim question probably, but if you're building a site with the aim of making money from Adsense, why would it matter how long the readers stay? They can only click away from your site through an Adsense link once, so what difference does it make if they do it after the tenth page instead of the second? I'd have thought you'd want to build a site with valuable information, but not so much that the reader thinks they can find everything they need to know on it instead of clicking on that subtly blended link 'over there' that promises to offer even more...

I'm loving this thread, by the way. It's like a living e-book

The whole point is that you don't want them to stay. You want them to click an ad and go pretty quickly.

Thank you, bg - that's what I thought. It's a lot like benefiting from a visit from the Mother-in-Law really. Give the guest what's expected in the shortest possible time, while always making an attractive-looking exit available nearby

Well, it looks like I need to change your mentality a bit more then.. Try not to think of it as a way of making cash but starting a business where your websites are your virtual real estate.

It might seem like a pedantic point but once you get out of the "make money online" mindset and actually start approaching it as a business then you can focus more.

Steve, you're an awesome inspiration. Even if you didn't win your own challenge, you established credibility and displayed a lot of very useful information to the community. I plan to continue following your progress and hope to tap into some of the awesome synergy that exists amongst your "followers" (No Kool-aid here, fellas!) Anyway, thanks again.

This is not a bandwagon so you don't need to worry about being to late.. This is about solid website building and monetization. Channel your excitement into the energy you will need to build your online empire.

With regard to making money from Adsense via a few websites or many websites all depends on the individual and the model they are adopting. Obviously both can work and neither approach is wrong if it's working for that individual. When you bottom line everything it all comes down to numbers and if the numbers 'work' then you have a positive ROI that is scaleable. That's all that matters.

The tagline can be changed easy enough in the wordpress admin area, go to Settings and then General and you can change the tagline there.

If you drop me an email to my support address with your request for a change to the header with how you would like it to look then I will change it for you.

So far so good, and I'm happy for you. But, how long will search engines index sites high that have had content that was (possibly) highly relevant in 2006?

I mean, what if their search algorithm changes tomorrow and says we wanna give our searchers not only what they want, but also new, updated stuff. What d'ya think?

But, wouldn't it be nice if the visitor came to your site when s/he was looking for relevant information again? that could perhaps generate another click?!

I think you're missing the main point of the post and that was how you can be successful in building huge sites or small ones. There is no one single "best" method. I have both and I can say that size doesn't always matter. (Pardon the pun)

You, me or anyone else have no control over changes in SE's. I don't spend time worrying about the "what ifs". Instead, I spend time building and doing the things I do have control over. Don't let yourself get frozen by all the what ifs. Start a site, add some content, monitor and test, and keep moving. Oh, and have some patience because many times a new site will start out slow and then suddenly 6 months later, take off. It happens. Hope that helps.
