Only use these theories about percentages of keywords and related keywords used in your articles as a guide Mike. It is never a good idea to get the calculator out and start working out the percentage of keywords used in your articles for one main reason.

It is easy to see the articles that have been given a handful of keyword phrases to include in the article because they just don't read well. By all means keep in mind the keywords that you would like to use but if they don't fit the context of the article then don't include them. An article that reads well, is factually true and is above all interesting will do wonders for your income and that is the bottom line!

Best regards / Mike

The 20 to 33 visitors is an average over the blog. I am hoping that 5 or 6 articles take off and get a ton of traffic whereas I fully expect a lot of them will get a trickle and the rest a reasonable amount. It might turn out that my estimations are way of the mark about traffic and I will have to increase the amount of articles I post to the blog. Either way, the problem is not insurmountable. With enough determination and work I can reach my visitor targets.

The thing you have to consider as well is that even though I am targeting a keyword phrase in each article, there is all the other long tails and unexpected keywords that will get searched for as well. As for the target keywords I hope it will get around 6000 exact searches a month.

Just wondering what kind of search volume per month that keyword should have to get that many visitors from that article, any approx numbers/guide?

Hey Steve

Are you using the all in one seo pack on your blog? Or would you recommend the use of that tool?

You can find information on this widget at WordPress › All in One SEO Pack WordPress Plugins

Indeed I am Julia, one of the best plugins in my opinion. I am actually in the process of writing a post on my blog about the plugins I am using for this challenge.

Oh, I see. I am all new to this, so I am taking it all one step at a time. Doing things as meticulous (debatable if its corrrect or not) as possible, hoping that if this pans out or not, I will have a solid foundation to continue on. I will have to learn by my mistakes. Since this is my first Adsense project I really don't have experience to adapt too so I think this is the best approach.

If you dont mind, I will post some of my progress in this thread also, as to show how a newcomer strive, learn and hopefully make it. The Jedi and his young Padawan so to say! :p

I have just added a post to my 100buckschallenge blog about the wordpress plugins that I use.

Interesting. Let me know the result and how you do it. I'm a doubter making a good income from adsense and your experiment may show me otherwise. Hopefully it does and make me change my mind about adsense earnings!

I look forward to your result.

Do you have any experience with the Platinum SEO plugin for Wordpress? I have heard some SEO types recommend it over the all-in-one-seo plugin. Also, is it true that all-in-one is not compatible with WordPress 2.7.

Also, regarding the the Google XML sitemap, I used the Wordpress plugin to create this for some of my sites, not Google Webmaster. And after I implemented sitemaps my traffic dropped close to 30 percent. Now, it happened the very next day, so I do think it is somehow related. There are others that have reported the same type of results are implementing sitemaps.

Would not creating a separate page for link exchanges create the impression of a link farm? I have thought about doing this, but am concerned that it might end up looking too suspicious to google.

Steve,

how do you intend to generate 2,000 visitors per day when the main keyword only gets searched for 6,600 times per month on Google?

Obviously you have more articles on the site than just the one that targets your main keyword. And you'll get visitors from your submitted articles and there are other SE's besides Google but 2,000 visitors/day still sounds like a big number.

I have no experience of the platinum SEO plugin so I cannot comment on that. The all in one seo plugin works fine in 2.7 for me.

What I was saying about the google xml sitemap plugin is I let it create the sitemaps for me and then I submit those sitemaps to google via webmaster tools. I see super fast spider activity from google using this technique and then indexing follows very fast. I can't say why it doesn't work for you and other people you know, have you checked webmaster tools diagnostics to see whether there is a problem with your site. I have seen nothing but advantages using webmaster tools personally.

There is a huge difference between what I am advocating and a link farm. A link farm is more about throwing up hundreds of probably automated and links to generally junk sites. What I am talking about on my blog are some carefully selected links to some good established sites on a resource page. More importantly, these sites are proven in google itself to help with link love to other sites in google's top 10 or 20.

It is a huge number John and I guess it will all boil down to how much of the Internet I have to own to get that number. I think the European cruise market has enough people when you start considering all the related niches like European cities, hotels in Europe, shore excursions, European car hire e.t.c. the list is quite long. If I was to stick purely with just cruises and ignore everything related, then I would be in trouble.

However having said all that, I think my initial estimate of around 70 to 100 articles was a big under estimate. As my traffic is starting to grow, I am getting a better idea of where I need to add more articles and which topics are proving more popular. It is very much an organic process. I think of it like a cruise missile, I know what the target is but getting there means I continually have to readjust my plans based on the feedback I get from the site.

Like Steve said, keep it simple. It's very easy to over complicate things if you start trying to figure out exact numbers.

You can see an example of how I do this on my 'Earn Online Cash' blog's latest post where I wrote about PayPal. I wanted to add in some keywords about PayPal that would fit in well with my general 'earn cash' keyword motif. So, I wrote a longish article, about 1200 words, to add them in. After that, it's a matter of building links with the new anchor text to the new article, something I haven't done yet.

I do have static sites that perform well but they seem to take a bit longer to get there. The beauty of wordpress is all the SEO benefits you get from them straight out of the box like rss feeds, plugins for bookmarking and other plugins that help like translation etc.. You can though achieve similar success with static sites but involves a bit more mucking around.

I agree. I also have good success in getting rankings fast in Google for static sites by doing article marketing.

But you can add RSS on static sites, just needs to be "manually" added. I use XSitePro and with a click of a button I can add RSS capabilities to my static sites. Then I can submit my RSS feed to RSS directories, claim the site at technorati or simply ping my site. Allmost like a blog.

Re: Follow me to $100 a day in Adsense in 3 months from 1 blog

Hello All,

I have a couple of questions regarding initial keyword research and search ranking. Although these are aimed at Steve and this particular project, I would love to receive comments from anyone as the questions are applicable to any project involving the construction of a new website or blog.

My first question concerns the use of Google's external keyword tool. What should the 'language' and 'countries/territories' be set to when searching for the keyword phrase 'european cruises'? It's not a trick question! You will get different results according to the settings you choose. For example, if you choose 'English' and 'All Countries and Territories', the tool returns 9,900 and 12,100 for 'Approx Search Volume: December' and 'Approx Avg Search Volume' respectively when the match type is set to 'Exact'. However, if the same search is carried out for the settings 'English' and 'United Kingdom', you get 880 and 880 respectively. It should also come as no surprise that the figures quoted by the tool for CPC are also dependent on these settings. Now as 'european cruises' might have worldwide appeal, I would use the 'English' and 'All Countries and Territories' setting. But what would you do?

My second question concerns the ranking of one's website in the SERPs. Okay, so you can see that Google has indexed your pages by typing site:yourdomain.com into Google. Great! So Google indicates that it has indexed 15 pages, say, and you want to know where each of those pages appears in the SERPs. So you type each of the keyword phrases you're targetting into Google, one at a time, and search for your pages amongst the thousands or millions of results returned. And by the time you get to the twentieth page and still can't see your site, you've had enough! (And that's just for the first keyword phrase!) So how do you go about doing this efficiently? And to add a twist to it all, bear in mind that the results you see are tailored to your location. You can test this out by appending '&gl=xx' to the URL displayed in your browser after the search has been carried out and refreshing the page. ('xx' is the two-character country code, e.g. uk, us, au, nz, etc.) I am looking for tools like the one found at 'h ttp://ferruh.mavituna.com/google/' but that don't have the limitation of looking at only the first 200 or so results. (Sorry about the space introduced into the URL but I am not allowed to post URLs at present!) I found the link to that site here: 'h ttp://search-engines-web.com/', which provides other useful links too.

I hope this will provoke some healthy discussion for these two key issues that are of concern to anyone creating/maintaining websites and blogs.

Nick

$500,000 on Adsense in what amount of time? One year? 5 years? There are a lot of people who make close to $100K in Adsense earnings a year. It is not that unusual.

I remember John Reeses video about 500k. I think it came out early 2006 or somewhere around then. It's a great video and I'm a fan of John but my only criticism of it is that it doesn't show anyone the METHODOLOGY behind it, just what it's results are. It's like saying "Look guys I made this great car but I'm not revealing how I assembled the parts. It does 0-60 in 5 seconds". So my feeling after watching it at the time was that the video was inspiring but left people doing this "???? how do I do this?????". I know John in the past has said "The secret is there is no secret. I got to work", but there is more to it than that. People need to know the steps they need to take or they flounder.

So Google indicates that it has indexed 15 pages, say, and you want to know where each of those pages appears in the SERPs. (snipped) So how do you go about doing this efficiently?
Hey Nick. I'm with you on this one. I would tend to use the same setting. Of course, you could also select other European countries by holding down the ctrl key while selecting them.

I recommend that you sign up for google webmaster tools at Google Webmaster Central you can sign in using your google ID. That page has heaps of great little tools on it but the one you want is webmaster tools (top left hand side).

What you do is sign in using your google ID (sign up if you have too) Add your website then verify ownership of it by adding a short piece of code to the page and clicking the 'verify' link. Once you've done that google will start reporting site stats etc (though you'll probably need to wait 24 hours to get any results). The following day you can go back, log in, click the webpage on the dashboard to be taken to the overview page. Near the top of the page is your url and below that a box that says 'indexing' with a link beside it 'top search queries'. Alternatively you could go through the left navigation panel and select 'statistics' then 'top search queries'

Anyway, once you've done this you'll see a list of search queries in which your website has appeared in the results. The fourth column is 'position' and tells you the average position of your website for that keyword. Now, they only show the top 20 search queries so what you need to do is check whether your targeted keywords appear in that list and what position they are at. If the keywords you're targeting don't appear in the list then you need to do some on page and off page SEO (off page being backlink building)

Hope this helps.

Hi Dean, but that is just it.. It is about putting in the man hours, it's about typing new articles or writing up new projects for ghostwriters. It is about getting enough good content together and compiling it onto a blog or website that is easily navigable.

Then you have to put the man hours into promoting that blog and just getting as many good backlinks as possible and continue doing this over and over again. There are no magic buttons, no secrets, no short cuts, just work, work, work. If it isn't you doing the work then it has to be a freelancer doing it for you. There are tools out there that can certainly help with the mundane tasks but there are NO tools out there that will do the work for you, no matter what those over bloasted sales pages tell you. It is up to YOU, pure and simple.

This is not just aimed at you Dean by any means, I just need to make this point as bluntly as I can so that we can all get in touch with reality about what we want to achieve and what we need to do to get there. It just baffles me that people always seem to think there is some part of the big plan that they are missing to make their financial dreams a reality..

I know that what I am saying here is probably incredibly boring for a lot of people who just want an easy route to success. So long as you know the basics about niche research, keyword research, content writing and promotion techniques you WILL make a good income but ONLY if you actually WORK, WORK and WORK some more! If anyone who is reading this is simply looking for a push button option to making money then I respectfully ask that you move onto another thread. If you are looking for a good income and you are happy to put in the graft then lets get it on!

True, but after you have put in the time and built up a good network of sites, there is a point where you can let them go on semi-auto pilot as such. Of course, you will have to continue to promote and keep on top of sites coming after your rankings, but you can back off on the intensity some what.

This is true but if you want to be serious about growing your earnings you need to treat it like a full time job.

I wish you good luck and I will be following this thread. 100 dollars a day through adsense? I am yet to get my first 100 dollars after 13 months with 4 different sites with an average of 50-200 unique daily visits.

This is an amazing thread, followed by an amazing blog (100buckschallenge.com), all compiled by an amazing person.

Steve, I can't thank you enough for doing this. The steps you've taken so far are so very similar to the list of things I do when starting a new blog, however, you've got slight variations in there that seem to make huge differences. When looking at those variations, along with the plugins, software, and other tools posted, I have no doubt that you'll reach $100/day by your deadline (if not sooner)

While I do make $xxx/day from the internet, I have never been able to reach $100/day from just ONE site. My birthday is March 29th, so hopefully my present by then will be my first site to hit 3 figures per day solely by itself.

Additionally, my girlfriend (of 7 years today!) will be helped by this so much as well. She's got to do an unpaid internship for 40 hours a week for the next 8 months as well as class until 8 or 9 pm at night to finish her masters and get started on her Ph.d. I understand this will take time for her to do, but the steps taken to achieve this can easily be done when she's got an hour here, 30 minutes there, 15 here, 2hrs there, etc.. (I've tried showing her what I know, but I'm not the best teacher and tend to get frustrated, so far you've made the fool-proof)

I've got one question for you though, Steve, or anyone else who has knowledge on this subject; How hard do you think it would be to implement this strategy to work on forums? Here's what I've got in the works for the forums:
-All SEO mods that can be done directly to the site that steve has listed (modrewrite urls, xml sitemaps, rss feeds, etc..)
-I'll create a section that only I can post unique articles in. I'd ping, social network, comment, syndicate, isnare, etc.. all of those articles/posts I make just as I would a blog post

As a note, my goal for the forums would not be to get $100/day from adsense right away, but rather to generate heavy traffic for rapidly growing a very large userbase. This way users could be creating the content for me, and I will have built up a very large opt-in mailing list in the process.

Hi Gunther Eibl,

I am very much interested in knowing how you can install an rss capabilities on your static website through the webuilder Xsitepro as I won one of those I just don't know how to have an rss on my site so it will always update my contents.

I would really appreciate if you can show me the ropes.... that is if its possible...

Hi Steve,

Totally agree with you on the "work" front. As you say, there is no 'silver bullet solution' that involves sitting back swinging in the palm trees without ever having done any work.

My point from the video mentioned earlier in the thread is that people need a methodology to follow THEN they can get to work. The point is, you don't turn up for a job trading in the city having never been taught anything about stocks. I mean, imagine starting your job on day one and a veteran trader saying to you, "Hey Steve, is this your first day? Let me login to my trading account. Look at this Steve, I made $143,543 today after drawdown. Look how much money I made, now you do it. All it requires is work".

.... "But aren't you going to show me the methodology behind earning $143,543?"

"Sorry Steve, I just wanted to show you the potential"

So whilst I agree with you that there is no big secret, and that application and effort is required, people ( in general ) DO need a methodology and to be educated ( which, incidentally is what you are doing here Steve and that's why this thread is very popular - because you're helping people and not just posting up how many $$$ you made each day ). Now if you have a good work ethic and also know the steps to take to achieve success, then destiny is in your hands.

I think the internet has now seen enough, "Look I made 450k in 3 months" type of videos IF those videos aren't accompanied with a scaleable blueprint. They want to know the "how to", not the "I did". If people are going to say the "I made 'x'" amount and accompany it with a five or six figure video, then they should also reveal the steps they took to achieve that. Saying, "You just need to work" is a LITTLE bit of a cop out.

People CAN work very hard at achieving very little and whilst I agree that taking action and working hard is a big factor, it's not the whole enchilada. I have seen people working very hard doing the WRONG things. Equally, though, those looking for push button riches will always come up short. I remember a while back reading about this guy that had created a beautiful site with outstanding content. Really, it was a site that people would have loved. He spent 99% of his time building and writing about the site and about 1% on promotion. He thought all you needed to do was "build it and they will come". There is one example of someone working hard doing too much of one thing and not enough of what would have made him an income.

I'm sure you see my point. This is no criticism of this thread Steve, it's a corker

Absolutely Dean, I couldn't agree more and I wasn't aiming a rant at you by the way, it was just your post that made me want to highlight the need to take action.

We do need a blueprint to work to just to get the concepts and I hope in some way this thread will in some small part help to show people a blueprint to adsense success. There are a gazillion ebooks on the market that show various blueprints and concepts that people can follow and I include my Cash Cow Guide to Adsense in there by the way (cough... ) but once you have that blueprint it is up to the individual to put in the hard graft. That is the point I am trying to make.

Hey ive been following this for a few days now just hadnt signed up to WF till now, good luck on reaching the goal - im sure you'll get there before the 3 months.

I eventually managed to track down your site, not going to say how as i do agree that it could skew results. (im sure you'll see how i did it when you check your google leads) It looks like a good blog and the domain seems a good one for higher placing in google for what i reckon would be a popular search term for that niche.

Good work! Cant wait to see more. Honestly i know nothing about IM and blogs etc. but i reckon you should get the words in your domain name and put them in your metatags.

Edit: BTW if you want to exclude my searches from what you are looking at my ip/comp info should say im from australia and am using firefox 3.0 on vista.

Hi Steve,
I have always been confused with adsense as on one hand there is talk of cents per ad made but then you talk of $100 per day from it.
This is a very new area for me and I will follow your posts as others are and try to make sense(no pun intended) of it as another stream of income for me.
My main income is from afilliate marketing but adsense has for a longtime now interested me but I could never get my head round it, but I will keep trying and maybe the penny will drop eventually.
Thanks Steve

Basically, a visitor arrives at your site and clicks on an adsense ad. That click will lead the visitor off your page to the advertisers website, google then pay you your cut for that click. The income you make from that click is very dependent on how much the advertiser is paying for it and other factors about your site(s) and other stuff only google know about. Even though your income may only be 20 cents for that click for example, the point is, you want to get enough visitors onto your site to get enough clicks to generate $100 (or whatever your target is).

Hey Steve,

My blog is coming on nicely and my article are getting indexed within a few hours of posting now which is fantastic.

I just wanted to ask a quick question about the categories if you dont mind.

Do I pick the 7 top keywords that I am going for and use those as the categories? I am pretty lucky as my niche is quite nicely set out that way.

Thanks,

Pete
