Steve I notice you haven't published an article on this site for four months. However, you are still ranked 6th on the first page of google. You must be pretty happy with the passive income still being generated, but are you still intending to develop the site further and add more content, to reach the original goal? |

Steve, I was wondering if you have used google's competitive ad filter and if so, what's your experience. Is it worth the hassle? I've noticed a few 0.01 clicks lately that I'm almost sure are made for adsense sites vying for my clicks - and it's kinda getting irritating knowing that I'm giving that money away. (This may have been covered within the cavernous layers of this thread, and if so I apologize) |

I personally have never tried the competitive ad filter but I am sure it will help you to filter out any domains you don't want advertising on your site.

Steve, Can you say what your main technique is for getting backlinks? Also, I know you use some articles from article directories. What percentage of the site is unique vs articles from directories (and are you adding your own content even to the pages from article directories you add to your site)? Thanks and great work. Hi Debbie, I have started a series on my 100 bucks challenge blog in my sig about how I get backlinks and the main techniques I use if you want to take a look. I have about 80% or so unique content on my blog and the rest is made up of articles from directories plus some PLR also.

I mean the way some bloggers wrap their adsense along with the content. This way, the adsense seems to float. What about adlinks?

Yes, Adsense within the text can be very effective in some cases. I usually find a square box works well as opposed to the horizontal rectangle. It should be used within your placement testing for sure. Adlinks work well also when used in the right pace. The top nav bar is a good place but once again always test various positions, colours etc.. |

I had around 80 posts or so but the $40 was generated from all the ones I had been promoting harder. About 5 posts generate 60% of the income and the rest is spread between the rest of my posts from various long tail searches. No it is not a requirement that you blog posts not be published in directories. Firepow, would make it easier for sure, I have a video demonstrating this here.. How to get your blog indexed and ranked... in minutes! |

I have been learning so much, I'm only on page 16, and I appreciate everything you spelled out. I am using the format you listed from the beginning of this post to start a new niche site / blog and I'm using some of your ideas as well to help get traffic to a service offering site / blog I have as well. It has Adsense but the main purpose of that blog is to get clients for my service. I've been on Adsense for YEARS and have yet to get my first check. That's sad, I know. But I'm hoping that slow and steady will win me the race and I will be getting that first check within the year.

Steve, Hm, I think I did not get the 2nd answer to your last post. This is because I have been used to posting a different article to directories and a different article to my blog because I fear duplicate contents. Will the same article posted in ezine and in your blog (later after ezine approved it) have problems? Or do I need to edit it always when posting to my blog? Thanks for the firepow video. Considering it when I get a steady amount from adsense every month to pay for firepow. |

I wrote quite extensively about this on another thread somewhere, sorry can't remember where, it might even be on this thread or even on my 100 bucks challenge blog.. Anyway, the jist of it is, you can quite happily post the same article on your blog as you do on the article directories but just make sure you don't put a backlink from article X on ezine articles to article X on your blog.. A backlink from article X on Ezine to article Y on your blog is fine though.. However, I still like to keep a lot of my content on my blog unique though just to give readers something original and fresh. It is a personal choice but don't worry about the duplicate content myth.

About to start reading page 29 and have to say I have learned so much! If you haven't read through this thread you have no idea what you are missing on! I cannot figure out how to do the thank you thing that others have done when you really like a post. I've got to thank Ninja for the video on the Google Wonder Wheel and Julia for just all around good advice and BGMacaw for his ideas on templates and marketing and, of course, Steve himself! I have some experience with IM but I never succeeded at anything, but I am learning so much from so many sources. I'm making notes to incorporate tools and tips into future sites. I actually have hope now! My dh and I are looking at a move and I'm looking at having to get back to a "real" job after four years of self-employment. I am not looking forward to that, so I'm really going after my service business and some niches so that I can continue to stay home and make money. And I enjoy this so much! I'm currently promoting my service business based on some of Steve's information and I'm working on gathering articles and stuff for my first niche blog and all of the advice I've learned here is helping with that effort. So thanks again, and if someone can tell me how to say thanks for a specific post I would appreciate it. |

Hi Steve, you mentioned about promoting the blog intensely. You only mentioned article marketing in the cash cow. What techniques do you implement? Do you implement social bookmarking? or twitter?

Some people claim to have success with churning out trashy autoblogs but I personally believe any success would be shortlived. My opinion, not worth bothering with. For longevity and sustained income you have to think quality, quality, quality. Make something you will be proud to show people and it's a good bet that Google will like it to. If Google like it, they will reward you with good rankings.

Now if you want a quality authority site in the travel niche, take a look at Concierge.com as an example. 7 Million incoming links, PR8, 519K pages indexed, 11 year old domain. Us mere mortals can't compete with that directly. But, where we can beat them is by having more relevant content for specific buying keyword term along with better optimization for that specific term. It's rare that these authority sites are optimized at that level which gives us an opening.

It's all about opinion and I am not saying that my cruise blog is in any way competition for a site like Concierge.com, I wouldn't dream of even comparing the two. What I will say though is that every article on my blog was either written or hand chosen by myself and I hope has something of value to people searching for relevant information. This is a massive difference to somebody who throws up a bunch of autoblogs fed by RSS feeds, spun content and other methods that the blog publisher has no idea of what they are publishing. At best I would use autoblogs as a network of feeder sites to funnel traffic to my main sites but I wouldn't dream of making autoblogs the centre of my business. I am not just saying this, I have tried it and yes they can get past Google's algos but if you read my post you will see I say they just plain don't last in the indexes for whatever reason.. This is where you and me differ and that is just the way it is. My philosophy for building sites is to give Google what they want and what they most certainly don't want is trash filling up their indexes. I know my blog isn't anywhere near perfect and I would never pretend otherwise but I am proud of it and ticks most of the boxes for Google. To sum up my philosophy on site building, it's about going with the flow...

As for autoblogging, I see it, when it's done right, as an aggregation of relevant material which might include articles, news excerpts/links, videos and, yes, advertisements. If done right it provides a quality experience (See Drudge Report as the ultimate example). You can be the editor to insure that nothing dreadful gets through but you don't need to baby it either. It is done wrong often enough though where it isn't providing value so I understand where you're coming from. I think you did a very good job on it. The only things I would have changed would be to have cut it down to a single large rectangle Adsense block and maybe done some things differently with internal linking.

Absolutely, it is not the autoblogging process itself, it is the person doing it. At the end of the day you are simply putting relevant information up in front of people looking for it. The lazy approach is to not care what that info is and where it comes from and those type of sites are destined to fail.

Article marketing was just one tactic, there are other tactics I go through as well like web 2.0, RSS directory submissions, social bookmarking, blog commenting, link exchanges etc.. Incidentally I am working on version 2 of the cash cow guide which will update these traffic techniques with some cool stuff. All current customers will get it for free.. |

It took me about a week here and there, but I read it from beginning to end. There is a lot of information in here but it's hidden. You just have to find it. Post 21 was a good one, I took notes on it. Get the chance to read it from the beginning and you'll learn a lot.

Hi Steve and thank you for all the grteat information you bring to light. My question is..... everyone keeps mentioning using the Cash Cow Adsense formula to generate income from your blog/s..... Therefore, I ask you, do you have to use this formula with blogs to be successful or can this formula also be used on regular niche websites? Thanks Steve and Horraaa! |

Alvanpilot, I am using the strategy for my websites and I don't have a "blog" per se. If you read the description of Steve's cruise site, it's not really a blog either. You can use blogging software like Wordpress, but consider the posts to be articles and not a blog post. That is what I am doing and I am using his traffic ideas to help build traffic to the site.

Nothing strange about it, they were all keyword stuffed pages that were built on .info's. Maybe with hindsight I could have turned them into affiliate sites but to be honest I wasn't proud of them and they didn't sit well with my new way of thinking. |

The cash cow guide to adsense wealth is my own personal strategy for making a good adsense income that I released as a guide (in my sig). You do not have to use this formula at all as there are many different strategies out there to achieve a good adsense income. However, this is my strategy that I know works because I have tried and tested it many times.
