I'm trying to optimize my websites for SEO on Wordpress. I have the keyword I am targeting in the URL, Title, and Description. I can't figure out for the life of me how to get the Heading to have my keyword.

Can I do this with the All in one SEO plugin?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Which heading are you referring to? A heading tag (ie: h1,h2,h3) is just a part of your text post and is just something you would type in yourself - not something controlled by a plugin like All in One SEO.

No you won't be able to do that via All in One SEO, although most blogs already have the the blog post title (not page title) as an H1 or H2 tag. You can always make that your keyword.

Otherwise your gonna have to dive into the code and do it yourself if your theme isn't setup that way.

    • Let's say I want to venture into the code and set up the H1 to be my keyword and H2 to be my post title....or something like that so that my H1 will be my keyword.

I'm using Market Samurai and it stresses having the Heading having the keyword you're targeting in it.

You can do this if you're using all-in-one seo or your wordpress theme is thesis. You can have a different page title from the post title, example:

Title page: How to learn SEO
Post Title (H1): 10 Ways to Learn SEO Fast

Something like that. Then have the body of the content strictly pertaining about the subject. There's no need to over use the targeted search terms within the body, you just have to assure that the content is very relevant (and I "personally" suggest to focus on creating lengthy posts as they are seen more valuable by search engines)

Usually WP themes use H1 for Site Name and H2 for Post/Page titles. For a starter I suggest you look at your sites code and see how is set.

Right click on site page / View source code

I think you are using Wordpress and it has your site TITLE in H1 tag, while your post title in H2 tag.

So if you are trying to target any keyword, then you may have to change Title of your site in order to get inside H1 tag.

Rest if you try to Edit Theme to change Post Title with H1 tag, I will not suggest this because having H1 twice on a single page is not a good idea.

    Thanks

    • For some reason, I think it has my Post Title in the H1 heading. I would rather have my Site Title in H1 and my Post titles in H2.

Can someone confirm that I am looking at this right? Play Golf Better Play-Golf-Better

Also, what page template do I change this on?

      Thanks

  • I found this piece of code on my page template...Could this be changed to accomplish what I am trying to do?

    <?php if(is_front_page()){ ?><a href="<?php the_permalink() ?>" title="<?php the_title(); ?>"><h1><?php the_title(); ?></h1></a><?php }?>

if you search this for your h1 tags, you'll see that you're missing an opening h1 tag

  • Thanks. That does help a lot. I am trying to list the words play golf better in a heading (H1) on my website so that I can be on top of google with the keywords "play golf better"

I want the search engines to pick up those keywords in my heading, title, description, and URL

    Is this possible through Wordpress.
