Country TLD or .COM???

Hey there,

I have a question;

I want to rank and dominate for a niche here in my country. It is a small place and very competitive. I am deciding whether to purchase the local country TLD and the main TLD (com) or purchase the main TLD (com) on it own?

Like to hear from anyone with good solid experience on this one?

Thanks

Dane

  • I think you should get the TLD for your country if you want to get local results; I had an .in domain once and got a ton of traffic from india.

    You could get both domains though - and if there's a language besides english spoken in your country you could translate between both of the domains

    • Definitely the country domain. People are loyal towards their local websites than .com.
    • Well you are talking about for your contry...then TLD for your country will be good for you...
  • Local tld is best but get the .Com as well, its only ten bucks.

      Some people swear by .com and others say the local. I'm thinking about doing both, now if I do what is the best way to handle this do I either;

      1.) Redirect one TLD to the other, if so what is the best way to do this?
      2.) Do I put a one page website on for both but with separate content?
      3.) If I have two web sites do I link them?

      I want to keep this simple so I don't get bogged down with too many details?

      What say you experts, you're welcome to make a comment...

      Thanks

  • I agree with Johny. Country TLDs will help you to dominate the local market.
  • I would go for the country local TLD and local hosting i.e. country specific hosting.
  • if you want local visitors to your website then local TLD would work great! For example if you live in germany and want to target only german people then you can buy .DE .. You will get high rank.
  • I Have a similar question, except I want to market a business in 2 English speaking countries - UK and Australia (the business is me - consulting!)
    I'm tossing up whether to run 2 sites on .com.au and .co.uk or just 1 .com site and try and backlink / otimize pages / KWs for boh countries.
    Different people have advised me to do both, so not sure either. Let me know what you decide.
  • If you want to rank in the search engines for your country than purchase the country TLD. Simple as that.

    Country TLDs will have a much higher opportunity of ranking in that countries Google/search engines than a normal .COM
  • I would go for.com
