    Howdy,

Well most people won't get article directories very much time these days since the Google Panda update made submitting to many of them pointless. The day of getting thousands of links from junk directories is done - they were never much use in the first place.

BUT I do still use article marketing and it's still an effective way to increase your traffic if you do it properly i.e. write high quality articles of more than say 500 words that are actually worth reading. Poorly spun junk written for $1 a pop isn't going to cut it.

And my favourite article directories (where articles can actually get indexed) are:

    Ezinearticles
    Articlesbase
    Easyarticles.com
    ArticleAlley.com
    A1Articles.com
    articletrader.com
    articlefeeder.com
    articlesnatch.com

    Hope that helps :-)

I agree with Niall here. Junk content will leave in the middle of nowhere. If you need links, you need quality content with a minimum of 500 words. After the Google Panda blow, my client is complaining that his Articlesbase account is not working well. He says Ezine and Go articles generate more traffic and the traffic from Articlesbase is close to none.

Though Ezine is not explicitly suggesting it anywhere, I noticed that longer articles 550-650 words are getting approved in record time from my Platinum account. They go live in 24 hours in some instances the latest being 48 hours. However, 400-450 word articles are taking much longer, even with my platinum status. The rejection rate can be frustrating.

This is too vague, the best for what? The best article directory for getting your content syndicated is probably Ezine, and that's the primary goal of article marketing. The best directory for backlinks, all of them will give you PR 0 links that aren't that powerful. However, mass submission to hundreds of directories can give you results. I like to break article marketing down into 2 parts -> distribution & syndication. More distribution = more links & greater syndication. Also, better content = better syndication.

Really depends on your purpose of article marketing, solely for SEO or direct traffic?

SEO: You need to syndicate to as many high PR directories as possible with spun article. Doing it manually will only strain yourself...So, you can try out article submission bot (such as article marketing robot) or content syndication service such as SEO link vine, etc...

Direct Traffic: You can also get direct traffic from the article if your article contains great contain with excellent call to action. You need to target article directories with high alexa:

    EzineArticles.com
    AssociatedContent.com
    ArticlesBase.com
    ArticleAlley.com
    ArticleDashBoard.com
    IdeaMarketers.com

    SearchWarp.com
    bukisa.com
    buzzle.com
    goarticles.com

These article directories have high alexa rank and you will definitely get lots of direct traffic with good quality articles.

I wouldn't submit to Buzzle anymore. 1 they don't allow external links anymore and two they will delete all your articles if they change the rules later on down the road.

      from Buzzle.com Guidelines

External Link Link to any external website is not allowed.

Important: Article will not get published if it contains any active external link (linked using HTML) or inactive external link (non-linked URL of a website).

Email addresses are not allowed in articles.

Good day mate! ArticleDashBoard recently changes to paid membership (one-time membership fee of $47). They no longer accept free article submission

I thought the search engines penalized articles that were spun by automatic programs. I don't even know how those work really but I wouldn't want my high quality content to go through them.

Also, when we talk about article marketing, we should really be clear as to if we are supplying an informative article that doesn't promote your business vs. a press release that does (with the call to action that you mentioned).

After researching this whole traffic building tactic for weeks I'm still not clear as to how to go about distributing content. I'm stuck at blog posts, blog commenting, and announcing the blog post via Twitter. I don't see the value in submitting the same article to all these sites and I'm afraid of submitting the same content to more than one.

Anyone want to help me shape my viewpoint on this?>

ezinearticles.com if you don't mind waiting a week.
        goarticles.com for speed of indexing.
articlebase.com if you don't mind nofollow links.

And there is always zeusarticles.com (the one in my sig) if you would like to help out a fellow warrior

        Hi there,

I understand where you come from. There are certainly lots of myth around about the punishment of duplicate article, etc...1 thing you should be clear is that duplicate content is the "the same content occur twice in your website", i.e. you accidentally publish twice in your blog.

While for spun articles, the idea is to make it as unique as possible so that they will be indexed by Google and your backlinks will be counted. There are no penalty from google when they detect similar content (i.e. spun articles). What they will do is to put your page into their supplementary index system. This is not a penalty!

Think of press release, do you think the reporter will completely write a fresh news to report the same news? Those news are syndicated to news agency, PR sites, etc...

Content syndication is different from duplicate content. You can obviously submit all your articles without doing any rewriting. But be aware that not all your articles will be indexed by Google in their main index system.

However, when you do spun articles, you need to be aware of the guidelines of the article directories too. Some of them will not accept spun article.

The point to submit to the high alexa articles directories is to gain direct traffic from the sites, not so much about getting SEO traffic, provided your article is worth a read.

Just a response on the Buzzle thing I posted earlier.

"Reply from: Admin 6/30/2011 12:45:50 PM With Google's recent Panda update we had no choice but to carry out clean up of Buzzle.com. We took 4 months to review articles and 3 rounds of editorials checks. As you can clearly see from the link above, things have changed. We finally elected to delete marketing articles and we believe anyone in the same position would have made the same decision.

We sincerely apologize for the problems this may have caused you. It was a great relationship but now at least on Buzzle, article marketing has come to an end."

    Hello Newjet,

Yes it is. It may not be as effective as it used to be but article marketing still got great potential. To really crack it, you need to have a good number of articles on ezinearticles.com. There are other good directories but in my experience, you can't afford to miss Ezine. Though articlesbase used to be a great directory, the clickrate is extremely low these days. After Ezine Articles, I prefer Goarticles.com and Amazines.com

Thanks for the reply hireseowriters, I appreciate it. Now I can be confidently concentrating in doing article submissions for backlinks. So is it better for a website to have many backlinks in ezinearticles rather than having 1 backlink to each top article directory? or the other way around?

If you are looking for article directories for backlinking reasons, in my opinion you are wasting your time.

Article directory link is not worth much, and most article directories such as articlesbase.com are actually no follow anyways.

In my opinion, there is a lot better use for your unique content elsewhere, like on your own site for example lol

    Hello Newjet,

Ezine has a crazy rejection rate. Believe me, it's a real pain to resubmit them. I suggest you to submit your articles first to Ezine and whatever gets rejected can be submitted to Go Articles.com or other directories.

As I mentioned earlier, Articles Base is no longer good but there are good article directories. It's not a bad idea to setup your own word press blog and update it with constant content. Hosting and domains are really cheap these days. It's totally up to you to decide!

Sigh, making miniwebsites is fun especially when are able to find low competition kewords with good search volumes but making backlinks is giving me headache.
