I had a website that has a blogspot domain... raking for a low comp keyword 1000 searches. The site was number 1 or 2 for about 3 weeks now it's gone. I had this happen to another site of mines a few weeks back and now my other website is back on the front page. Anyways why does this happen anyone know?

One of my sites is doing the same thing. I went on the Google Webmaster forum today and started a thread titled "It looks like Google is broken".

I got some responses basically saying my site sucked, which I agree, it does kinda suck, but that's not the point lol

But I have decided that everywhere I go I am going to leave the phrase "Google is Broken".

If nothing else it makes me feel better.

Google gives new sites a temporary ranking multiplier. After a while, this will disappear.

Makes me chuckle to think that google could come right here
and hire experts to fix their broken multi-billion dollar empire.

I have no idea why people demand that google keep their
site #1. Like.....there's no other sites?

Because your site is not #1, google is broken? Well, send
          in your resume.

No actually the reason I say that Google Is Broken, is the site that they penalized is unique and I have worked at getting decent backlinks and such, while I have a couple other domains that I haven't done anything with in a while, they are running Passive Profit Portals and just scraping duplicate content from Yahoo answers, and they are ranking better than before. So IMO Google Is Broken.

              Hi 2stroke,

I think what Paul may have been trying to say is that your website doesn't exist in a vacuum. You are comparing your website to your other website and they are probably not even competing for rankings on the exact same keyword. You must compare your web pages to the pages they are actually competing against. In one case you may have very weak competition, and in the other much stronger competition.

Your web pages don't exist in a vacuum, they compete with other web pages for that exact same keyword. You competition plays a major role in how well your own pages rank. Even though you may have a web page with great content, there is no guarantee that there won't be many other pages of equal or greater content, or with equal or greater promotional efforts.

I will be the first to admit that I am a newb and some of you guys have forgotten more about IM than I will ever know. You guys are used to this, but from my standpoint it goes like this:

You put time and effort into building a site, come to the Warrior forum and other places to get advice on how to do things right from the experts.

You see success, ranking top 3 for 5 weeks, getting lots of click troughs. It motivates you even more and you continue to build your site and SEO according to what you are learning.

You wake up one morning and find out your site fell to like 400+ in the rankings. I understand how it's relevant to give a new site an artificial boost to insure searchers can keep up with new events, products, happenings and such but it's been about 2 weeks now that nobody will ever find my site on Google.

IMO if your going to toss a site from top 3 back to 400+ in the rankings overnight, that site should have never been in the top 3 to begin with.
I may be a newb, but I know my site doesn't suck 400+ bad for that targeted keyword. I was preparing for the "new site boost" to wear off. I have compared it against the top 10 sites using the Traffic Travis tool, I examined the top sites backlinks and duplicated as many of them as I could plus many others, I have steadily added new content.

So why am I sitting at 400+ not getting much traffic? Because apparently I took the wrong approach to IM, I am exactly where I didn't want to be, I am dependent on Google for my success. Lesson learned...

                  Hi Jim,

You are describing the classic effects of QDF, which is a temporary boost in rankings to to help users find late breaking information. After that temporary rankings boost wears off, your page sinks to its' currently earned rankings. This happens to all webmasters. It doesn't mean that your content is bad, only that there are a lot of other pages that deserve higher ranking than yours. That says more about the level of competition and may have little to do with the quality of your content.

If you want to rank well, you will need to promote your website and earn those higher rankings. It's a competitive world and the spoils belong to those who win. You haven't been at this long enough to expect to have earned such high rankings. You have a lot of work ahead, get busy and earn it.

Dude, you sound like a broken record. QDF? Really?

Explain this to me then. I've had a site drop from first page to 500+ for four months.... I let it go...didn't build a single link, no new content, nothing, I just abandoned it. About ten days ago it reappeared, and guess what? It ranks better than ever.

So IMHO your theory is the one that deserves to be a bit refreshed.:p

                      Hi Hogre,

                      Theory?

Who said anything about a theory? It is no theory of mine, it is a well publicized feature of Google search.

Sadly, no matter how many times you share knowledge and experience their are always trolls that pooh pooh every fact and useful bit of information with subterfuge.

I don't know enough details about you particular situation, but I could think of dozens of possible causes for what you experienced. Maturing backlinks earn trust over time, naturally earned backlinks could have been created, Google is constantly tweaking their algorithm, all of which could be responsible.

Broken to the tune of record profits....

What if 100 other people did the same thing as you?

What makes you think, out of billions of sites, that your site
MUST be #1, and stay there?

I just don't get this mentality.

That's like saying the Miami Heat just must win an NBA championship
because, dammit, they spent the money and got the top players!
The owner just knows it's unfair for an inferior team to win!

You're not even doing an effort to understand what he means. If he had a site that ranked well (doesn't even have to be number 1 per se) with decent original content for a long time, and then suddenly dropped to postions 500+, don't you think it's normal he questions the process behind that. There is something inherently wrong with a system that values a site top 5 for a certain while, and suddenly not even considers it top 500 anymore for the same content. It clearly shows a form of penalty is going on that shouldn't be.

These seemingly random fluctations of top10 > 500+ > top10 > 500+ are ridiculous and not a realistic indicator of a sites value. If Google does not consider a site worthy of a top ranking, it should give it at least the ranking it does deserve. There is no way if that site was designed with care for that keyword that there are 500 sites ahead of it quality/relevance-wise. NO WAY.

And if you don't believe this guy has a quality site, then I suggest you take a look at the Google forum Panda topic with over 4000 posts, in many cases about sites of real companies that have a lot authority, experience, links with the different industries, that saw huge drops in their rankings. Not to mention the posts about sites with original content that see scrapers rank above them with their stolen content after the recent updates.

But yeah, like you say in every post, business as usual, nothing wrong and nothing new going on. C-L-U-E-L-E-S-S

may take a week or more can be forever, all depent ,
everyday new site will index by google and google always looking for the best conten,
    here how google work :

if your site full information that realy work for reader you will get first page
google also other serching engine want get more reader to search from searching engin, if the reader search from google find just garbage information google will loss the businnes, that why google so picky for the original conten and full information, if to many competition then you need more back link, if not even you have no back link you can get on google first page

good luck just keep learning what google want , that is the key ( nothing methode can gurantte stay long on google ,google and other search engine always change that why they hire programer and pay lot of money to block any leak on google,

Thanks for the input, the one I am talking about is a different site.

I haven't updated the one in my sig for a while because it's been doing ok with article and youtube driven traffic, I never did rank for that site for "killer content review" but I do for "killer content scam" and "killer content socrates". Actually the Warrior forum is #1 for "killer content socrates" and I am a close #2 lol. Kinda moved on to other things now too. On a side note, I wonder why that site hasn't been Google slapped yet? Not enough competition for the keywords perhaps?
