The Secret to a Great CTR!

One word: Organization.

That's all.

I just took my very basic campaign from something with a bunch of keywords that didn't really fit well together and separated it so they were in different ad groups, that actually made sense. I then made two new ads for each group and am split testing each.

I went from a 1:1000 CTR to 1:60, probably less. MUCH better.

Just by taking my current keywords and putting them in smaller ad groups I have increased my CTR 1666%. That's friggin amazing if you ask me.

So, can your ads be better organized?

  • It is friggin amazing. I always organize my ads so they are in better "position" and I get many clicks.
  • Did you try using the keyword in your ad?

It can boost your CTR significantly.
  • AND organize separated by match type.

Its a HELL of a work, eg. creating adgroups only using exact, another one only phrase with NEGATIVE EXACT -[keyword]

    Forget broad....

Seriously cut down my CPC and i get great CTR and ad position. I am with AW for a long time, but this was the best thing i ever read.

I think it was some PPC course by james schramko.

Before i used Perry Marshall's method, eg. ONE grp with all match types in the group..didnt work that well at all.
  • Yes it's all about how targeted your ad is. Small ad groups always work very well.

    • Totally.

I put together a very small ad group of maybe 10 keywords. They are all very tightly knit together. This has been getting me way more clicks than my biggest ad groups put together with way less traffic. If the larger groups keep going this way for a few more days, I'll be converting those into even smaller groups.

Right now I think my biggest ad group contains 30 keywords. I can nip that down pretty easily.
  • Higher CTR is good but not always better than when it's lower. Higher CTR may give more reasons for Google to smart price you. The eCPM may drop. It happended to me many times so now I just stop optimizing the CTR.

I don't know, maybe I was doing something wrong. But from my experience, it is so.

How are you doing with eCPM after optimization on CTR?
  • Targeting is everything... with Adwords, as well as business in general... the more dedicated groups you have, the better you can cater to them, and the better response you will get.

    • I've never done PPC, can you give me an example of a group and non group so I can see the contrast?
