If you are targetting a main keyword for your site, but there is a variation of that keyword also which has a lower search volume, should you just base your site around the keyword with a higher search volume.

For example, if the keywords were;

dish washer reviews - 2000 searches/month
dish washers reviews - 200 searches/month

Would you target "dish washers reviews" as your main keyword or does having an "s" at the end of "washer" make ranking for "dish washer reviews" less effective.

    If you have 1000 backlinks ready, I would suggest you split into 200 for the with 's' version and the rest of the backlinks should be for the main keyword target. The point is, if you want both of the keyword variants to bring traffic to your site, then you need to make spiders understand that both keywords are used when linking to its landing page.

    • Id go for the first one. When you are building anchor text links to the site, mix it up a bit, but for URL, title, header etc, I'd use the first one.

    I would stick with dish washer reviews and sprinkle some "dish washers reviews" throughout the site like in your H1 tag and meta description or keywords tag. For example in my H1 tag I might do something like this:
    Line 1 (normal H1 font size): Dish Washer Reviews
    Line 2 (smaller font): The Best Dish Washers Reviews and Bargains

    I like to optimize "dish washer reviews" at first and then "dish washers reviews". First keyword will give me a good base for continuing another campaign.

    Build your back links with keyword variation, i.e build your back link for both dish washer reviews and dish washers reviews

    Google Adword Keyword Tool will help you to determine its monthly visits and also its competition. I would suggest to be more specific when it comes to keyword targeting to have effective results.

    Similar question. I've got a page ranking well for the term promotional jobs, but not so well for the term promotions jobs. Happy to split my link building strategy and build links with both anchor text, but what about titles and tags etc.

    Obviously I can have a mix of the keywords within the page content, but should I try and include both keywords in my page title and tags even though they are very similar?
