So I know that it is important to put keywords in the title of the website, but what is the best way to do it?

Here is my scenario. My website name is, The Wood Doctor, my top keywords that I am going after are Wood Restoration Portland, Wood Refinishing Portland, and Cabinet Refacing Portland.

With that, what is the best way to compose my title?

Something like:
The Wood Doctor | Wood Restoration Portland, Wood Refinishing, Cabinet Refacing

Or am I way off? And a second part to this question, is it worth it to include the city Portland in there at all, or should I assume Google will customize the search by city anyway?

  • There's not really much I would change in your Title Tag. It might be a little bit long, but I wouldn't worry about it. Definitely keep Portland in there. Google may or may not customize the searches for you, and portland is part of your keywords.

    I'm not sure if any of those keywords queue the place pages, but I'd recommend hooking up your site to a local place page just in case. They're super easy to rank, and can help drive quality traffic to your site.

    *just checked and the places do show up. Set it up. Optimize it. (you only need a local address, they don't need to see it).

    And just checked more. Go on all your competitors place pages. Write down all the directories that they are getting citations from. Go and create a profile on each of those, and make it the exact same information on your page. Use a directory submissions service to get your business in more directories. It will definitely help move your place page up.

    • You should definitely include your cities name both in the title and content of the site if it is part of the keywords you are trying to rank for.

      Also, if you are building the site with wordpress there is a plug-in called "All in one SEO pack" that you should use. It allows you to customize the title of your site on a per page basis.

      So, if you have one page that is optimized for a particular keyword you can use that keyword for the title without the change effecting your homepages title, or any other pages title for that matter.
    • Thanks so much for the suggestions. If you don't mind giving me a little more detail that would be great, and very much appreciated. What is the best way to check what sites the competitors get their citations from? And what is the best directory submission service? Should I be looking at something like ScrapeBox for either of those questions?

  • Sounds perfect to me. Keep it to those 3 keyword though. Usually I never optimize a page for more than 2 or 3 keywords else it starts to look spammy when you read the text.

    That should be fine though.
