Google suggested changes to my Adsense site

A few months ago I received an email from Google suggesting some changes to my site that they believed would increase my AdSense earnings.

I took this as a sign from Google that they valued my site as a desirable
publisher's site.

However, to my surprise my site was downgraded from PR3 down to PR2 in the last Panda update.

I have waited a few days for the dust to settle hoping that it would go back up, but so far it hasn't.

Anybody else has had the same or similar experience?

You are talking about 2 separate things. Adsense and PR have nothing to do with each other. In fact, its suspected that Google hasn't paid attention to PR for years.

I made the changes back in February right after I received Google's email. The site was downgraded in the recent Panda update (end of June).

I agree, but I just thought that they liked my site and that's why I was disappointed to see it downgraded.

The Adsense recommendations are automatic and are not related to Pagerank in any way.

Did your earnings go up after implementing the suggested changes?

I agree with the Pagerank, but I am not so sure about the email because it starts with "We just reviewed your site (my site's name) and noticed that you're not... Blah... Blah... Blah..."

Yes, after making the suggested changes, my earnings did go up a bit.

The PR is a function of your backlinks, you lost some or Google discounted some because of the Panda update. I don't think PR is included in Panada but it could have an effect through what I just mentioned. If Google loved a site and had it at a PR6 but de-listed it then you lost those backlinks. I think that takes human action though, I don't think Panda will delist? Hmmm, now I'm gonna go check the PR of a site that got busted a while back, from page 1 to 250 Not mine....

The site I had in mind is now a PR 2 but penalized. I think you just lost links or a high ranking site that linked to you lost links. Google changes PR every three months USUALLY but sometimes they don't follow their schedule, at least not lately.

Thanks for your posts!... what you said about other sites linking to mine loosing PR (or getting de-listed) and subsequently affecting my site's PR makes a lot of sense... I never thought about it that way.

The PR change is because of many other factors for ex:OBl and other matters. The adsense earning should increase because the changes they suggested will give your site exposure to more advertisers.

The changes google tells you to do are normally two:

      Add all 3 ad blocks
      Change them all to text/image

You get that email because google thinks they have advertisers chomping
at the bit to bid. The more ads, the more bidders. The more text and image,
the more bidders. More bidders=more money.

But it does not always work this way. I know on my top adsense site, I
had used the ad filter way too much. Went back to square one, text and
image, and the thing took off again. I still use the ad filter, but think twice.

Sometimes adding image ads does make your overall earnings go down.

I would add 3 ad blocks, make 1 just text, the other 2 text/image.

PR is not based on panda or adsense.
But if panda de-indexed sites that had counted links to your page, well,
it could affect it I suppose. But "panda" has nothing to do with PR. PR
is all votes from backlinks. Some backlinks become more valuable, less
valuable, or disappear. I think people forget that.

I myself try and get safe links and not get tons of useless links.

I'll say it again. For the 1,000th time. The best links to get are on your
own sites, including squidoo, blogs, domains, and internal linking.

If your links are based on a house of cards, that's your fault. Many people
      tout house of cards backlinks.

Paul, thank you for your post and I agree with almost everything you said. I would only be cautious about the types of ad blocks.

Generally speaking, enabling text and image ads for all ad blocks generate more earnings, but there is no substitution for testing because what works for one site doesn't necessarily work for another.

I think that you are absolutely right... At least as your answer relates to my experience.

One thing though, what does OBI mean? I searched online for the meaning, but I couldn't find one that would relate to the subject at hand.
