Hi guys,m

Can anyone explain or know`s of a WSO that can show me how to correctly use internal-links on my site ?

What exactly am i supposed to do ? My sites are not big but i have some with 20 pages and want to correctly interlink the whole site up.

All i`m doing right now is ... For the site with 20 pages of which 19 are inner pages and the home page so what i`ve done is just started at the last page i indexed and at the bottem of the page put `related articles` and put 2 links to other pages on the site.

So page 20 the last page has links pointing to page 19 and 18, then i`ve gone to page 19 and linked that page to pages 18 and 17 then gone to page 18 linked that page to page 17 and 16.

I`ve then done this to every page until i get to page 2 where this points only to the homepage and the homepage has no out bound links.

My thoughts are that each page is linked to another page on the site and is passing alittle PR down and down until page two which must have alittle pr from all the above sites just points to the homepage.

Is this any good guys or not and if not could some kind person explain what i`m really supposed to be doing !

Thank you all so much,

jim

My sites are build on wordpress so I just add an Anchor text link at the end of the post to another post.

    Post A -> Post B -> Post C and so on...

That's how You can interlink all the Site pages.

There are broadly two ways to link internal pages together:

    1. Through your navigation menu - by making sure your pages are all accessible from it.
    2. Through linking specific content on one page to a different (but relevant) article on another page

The idea behind internal linking is to enable you to use other articles already on your site to expand on some information you're writing about in the current article.

So if I'm writing an article on customising Thesis, and in it I include a step where you have to make a change to the custom functions file, I'll link the text 'custom functions file' to the article where I've described in detail how to edit and use it.

That allows me to keep the current article focused, doesn't distract people who already know how to edit the custom functions file and gives people who don't know how to edit it a link to the relevant information.

    Cheers,

    Martin.

In addition to Martin's good information about internal linking on a topical basis, you also use internal linking to boost the ranking for pages you want to push up in the SERPs.

So there are really two reasons for internal linking - Martin's method for creating a good user experience, and then using good anchor text on some pages to boost other ranking target pages for those keyword phrases.

Every time you create a backlink to a page with anchor text (in nav menus or in contextual settings in content), you are letting Google know that the destination page has something to do with that anchor text.

Nav menus usually link to sections of a site or categories of topics or something like that. Then, within individual pages, you can add the additional internal links to help your user find good information and help the search engine spiders understand the content on your site better.

Random linking from page to page can help the spiders find content to index as they follow the links, but it doesn't give you any kind of a boost for usability or SERPs.

Internal linking isn't just about grabbing a piece of string and stringing a line from page 1 to page 20.

Think of it as a spiderweb (no pun intended) where your main topic (or home page) is in the middle, and you are linking paths out from there on your main topics, and then fleshing out the web to individual content from the main section branches. That's good navigation. This kind of looks like a wheel spoke where main paths lead out from the middle and gradually become more specific.

Then you use links between actual content and other actual content to build connections between parts of different sections (that's the contextual linking inside individual content to other useful/related information like Martin talks about). This strings paths between major spokes in the wheel so that if someone is reading about Hamster cages topics, for example, they might be linked to Hamster food (a completely different section of the site).

Sorry I don't have a good picture of this. If you still have questions, let us know.

          1. Use a sitemap. This helps search engines find what the visitors are looking for. It's also an easy way of increasing the number of internal links to your important web pages. Setting up a sitemap improves the traffic from search engines and enhances your visitors' loyalty.
          2. Second, use the cross-link technique for articles between your sites. This is very useful especially if you have many online materials. Remember to use only relevant ones.
          3. Create a Frequently Asked Questions page. This helps you get internal links to your posts using keyword-targeted terms. This also improves the readers' loyalty. We don't have one here, yet!
          4. Create a series of posts to let your visitors learn more information relevant to the particular topic. Writing and publishing a series can link each post to the others, thus increasing the views.
          5. Place links to the most popular posts. Many blogs include links to particular posts on the sidebar. This can be done manually or through plug-ins, but the latter is more convenient.
          6. Use a week or month summary. To improve internal linking, do it regularly. Conclude each week or month with a post that connects to the most popular posts on the blog.
          7. Place links in your footer area. This attracts most visitors so utilize it and provide links to pages and posts on your blog.
          8. Take advantage of the 404 error pages. Make these pages friendlier to the users by providing links to your most well-liked posts.
          9. Get linked up easily to other related posts or pages within your wordpress with the free YARPP (Yet another related post plugin) always have related information and articles shown on the page your visitor is on.
These are excellent ways to increase internal linking with logical reasoning and techniques.

Here are what I do, When two pages' contents have some relationship, such as one quote another, I will add an internal link. And I add at least 1 link links to the category it belongs, and for 2 or 3 pages I will add at least 1 link links to homepage. And so far this method works well, keyword ranked not bad.

You need to look up the terms semantic keywords, latent semantic indexing and website silo. You want to organize logical "silos" of content that are linked to each other. you also want to get rid of "contact us" and "sitemap" links on every page or at least make sure they have the rel="nofollow" tag.

This structure easily allows for deep linking and preserves PR by denying it being passed to useless login, sitemap, legal, contact us pages.

When you have similarly related posts or contents on your web site, it makes it easier to interlink them among each other.

Take for example if I have a post which I think can complement one of my existing posts, then I link the current one to that one.

Well, this is just a rough guideline of how I do it.
    Anyways, good luck!

Here's an example of interlinking which been great.

I have website that targets 21 keywords (homepage + 20 main articles).

-Each of the twenty main articles are 750-1000 words and are on the home page with their respective keyword as anchor text.
-Each article links back once to the homepage with the home page keyword as anchor text.
-I have a ffurther 100 posts which are 300-500 words each. 5 posts each of the 20 main keywords, and they link back to those 20 articles and the home page as well.
-I build backlinks. 50% to the homepage, and 50% to the 20 artcile pages.

Already ranked #18 for the homepage keyword ...getting 110,000 exact match searches.

I have a blogger and I added the "You might also like" feature at every end of my post. This will give links to related articles or to those articles which do have the same tags.
