Why do my sites serps have WWW before them?

Just wondering if anyone knew why all my wordpress sites seem to have the www. before the domain in the serps when I never build links to the www. version, only the http://domain.com version?

My sites rank well but if you look at the competition my sites will have zero or one link pointing towards them and that's about it but they still hold their position. Why is google listing the www. version?

  • Did you accidentally make a change in General Settings?
  • In the WP admin page, what do you have set under

    Settings->General

    WordPress creates a redirect from either the www or non-www version of your domain depending on what domain you've defined.

    • No even under those settings I have it without the www. prefix.

      Not sure why Google is choosing to add the www......

  • Did you make any changes in your Google webmaster tools settings?
    I mean, if by any chances you set your www domain as your preferred domain... It makes your www domain visible to the search engines and users.

    • No as I don't use Google webmaster tools....
