Hey, ok i have basically created a wordpress site and have successfully ranked well for the keyword in which i was targeting. Now i want to target other keywords, so far i have been unsuccessful.

I have created new content/articles on my blog, targeting the new keyword in the title, and within the content (bold/italic)

I have used the wordpress plugin called 'Platinum SEO Pack' and have added the Title, Description and the Keyword, yet im still not ranking.

The keyword isn't very competitive, less then 800 searches per month, and i'm not even getting index into the serp for this keyword.

What else should i do, and whats a common process of targeting new keywords?

Cheers,
Chini

    1. Contextual backlinks. Drop this link on other site your keyword. ex: Article submission
    2. Regular Backlinks. anything here. ex: Blog comments
    3. Link to your domain. anything here. ex: Directory submission
    4. Link exchange
    5. Social bookmark with do-follow

      Hi Chini,

First, let me say that the number of searches is no indication of competition. Number of searches is an indicator of how much potential traffic is available for you and your competitors.

Secondly, the number of competitors is not all that important. You should only be concerned with the top 10 or 20 competitors. With only 800 searches per month you should only concern yourself with the top 10 competitors. You will need to best at least the number 10 listing to be on the first page of results. With only 800 searches it wont pay to be on page two.

Study the page that ranks #10, look at their internal and external link structure along with their backlinks. If you you believe that you can do a better job and the traffic you get will be worth the effort, then go for it.

Lastly, make sure that you are following Google's webmaster guidelines in every aspect. It wont pay to put the effort into promoting your page if it's going to be ignored due technical problems.

thanks guys, i noticed the competitors dont have the keyword in any of their anchor text backlinks, so thats good news.

Also the website i have is a wordpress blog, and the page i have optimized for this new keyword is a brand new post, with a article. So when i create backlinks, do i use that url of that brand new post , or should i still be creating backlinks using the new keyword, and using my domain which has all the posts on their?
