Do you ping, backlink or do nothing to your backlinks?

Hey I was just wondering what to do after you created a backlink as I noticed there is alot of controversy on this subject.

I hear people just ping their backlinks so they get indexed and noticed faster by google. Others say it's best to let google crawl them naturally. The final option would be to backlink your backlink. What do you guys think?

  • If you are making a lot of links, you want to do nothing and let G find them slowly. If you are making them by hand, then ping.
  • I'm doing nothing since I built thousands of them. I want google to find them naturally (:

    • I personally agree with @auradev,

If your doing thousands of backinks with an automated service, then I wouldn't worry, but if you are creating high quality backlinks by hand, I wouldn't leave them to chance!

Something like the backlink energizer plugin works great in getting your backlinks noticed by google!

  • The best is If you create a rss which involves all those backlinks you have created.I have found it more useful than the pinging. However after creating rss I never bookmark or submit it directories as I want google to crawl them slowly.

I have never pinged my backlink...let google find your backlinks naturally...and another gr8 method I have found that when you make a link use twitter and post your link there that way your link will get indexed much faster...
  • I build a couple here and there. I prefer writing over back linking, with the result my back linking tends to lag a bit. I'm looking at killing to two birds with one stone by starting to do some article submission for exposure and a link back (whether its DoFollow or not).

I'm sort of working under the principle that "if you build it, they will come."

Though I realize they need to find it somehow too.

  • Pinging helps to get the backlinks crawled & indexed at a faster rate. This is a great service that helps with this, and I think there is a free version available: Linklicious.me - Scheduled RSS Feeds to get your Backlinks Crawled FAST

  • want to get indexed Fast by Googoo, then do that thing..... or you choose slow indexed? do nothing
  • Lets crawl the link Google it self. I don't prefer for Ping the back links.
  • It depends on type of linkbuilding, profile links needed to be pinged. But higher PR backlinks from blog commenting or blogposts usually does not require pinging, because such pages are cached by Google regular basis.

    Thanks

    • Do both!

Let google find your high quality links, ping the rest.
  • Pinging wont hurt your site. The really the only way it can hurt it is after google already found it....if you keep pinging it...and nothing on the site has been updated....but thats not what we are talking about..we are talking about pinging your site that google doesn't know about..until google finds it.

Now, if you have a high quality site...it wont hurt it to ping it...BUT...its also unnecessary because it will almost surely be found by google on its own. Lower quality sites need to be pinged, and forum profiles HAVE to be pinged.

When you ping your sites, you need to realize that one ping may not do it...it may take two...or even up to 6 or 7. It also won't be good if you ping a lot of your links all at once....so you gotta watch out for services that do both of those.

With linklicious.me you will get your links pinged until google crawls them, and then it will stop automatically dripping them out so that google does't see them all at once and you don't get penalized.

Additionally what is great about linklicous is that as a member, you get a coupon that credits you at onehourbacklink for ever dollar spent at linklicous so that you basically get free back links
  • I see ppl talking about thousands of back links ... at what level they start to be effective? 100 ? 500 ? 10 ?
  • If you make just a few quality links (the way I like it) instead of a lot of low-value links, you can tweet the pages you got your links on..
  • I personally don't ping links pointing directly to sites that are fresh out the gate.
  • Since I create all my backlinks manually, I do ping them.
  • sometimes,i would ping them, but it seems don't effect to google index
