Do you make predictions about Google's future changes when you do SEO?

When doing SEO, there are certain measurements you can take to ensure you will always land in Google's favor. Mainly that means building useful content that meets peoples needs when they find you via search. But otherwise SEO is constantly changing when Google alters its methods. It is important to be aware of the latest information about what Google may or may not be valuing more highly and make the best decisions, but what about the future?

Do you guys ever strategize over the basic idea that what works today may not work tomorrow and it is better to predict Google's next move rather than absorb it like so many did with Panda?

I want to know your thoughts on how much your own ideas of where Google is headed affect your present day decisions with regard to SEO strategy?

    Always.

And the answer every time is maintaining diversity. If google ever decides to target some form of "over-optimization", having diversity of on-page and off-page SEO factors will always prevail over competitors that focus on a specific strategy.

As for predictions - social signals are more important then ever to Google (facebook fans, +1's, twitter mentions, etc.).

I totally agree with all of this. Diversity is so important now, but it can save your butt down the road. I also have added the Google +1 button even though at this point there is little value to it. There is simply too much at stake IMO to risk ignoring it. Twitter and Facebook (and whatever the next big thing is) have immediate non-SEO benefits, so I use them either way.

DIVERSITY IS KEY!! I've been saying it for a long time now and if you want to avoid the latest changes at Google or future changes then the more you diversify the better as your spreading the risk.

When you apply this to link building, you should be getting links from a wide variety of sources. Google simply loves sites with a diverse portfolio of links.

Yes diversity is the key, but to go further, protect your money site. Set up feeder sites (Web 2.0 sites) that creates a link, some to your money page, and some to other level one web 2.0 sites. Blog commenting, forum profiles etc, some link to your money site and some to the feeder sites. Map out a strategy, and protect that money site! If some of these feeder sites go down, you still have strong viable links going to your site.

      All the Best
