1)

I read to "theme" keywords in content network, so is it a good idea to stuff MANY keywords regarding to a topic in Content Network?

Eg. for "making money", "make money easy" etc. i can easily come up with 1500 keywords which ARE actually related.

2)

I for content network to get many impressions, a) what is a decent CPC?

3)

Is it advised to make several ads, incl. text ad and a variety of image ads (own banners as well as some with Google display ad builder) and put MANY variations of those ads into one content nework campaign?

4)

Just looking for general tips to maximize ROI/effectiveness on content.

Is it good practice to a) focus on Placement....or IGNORE placement targeting but rather use "use whole content network" but use keywords instead. Wouldnt placement targeting rather limit my impressions, especially if i do use keywords?

  • you dont have to come up with them, you can use the google keyword tool or elite keywords to get the keywords and thier rankings, and with alittle more research decide which to use: (dont use all)

  • I'll try to answer some of these...

    1) Generally you'll want to build tight ad groups, Google recommends 5 to 20 keywords per ad group.



    2) All depends on your Quality Score...



    3) I always run at least two text ads per ad group. You can start off with the same ads for every ad group if the themes are similar, but usually you will need to target some ads for the different themes. Test it then tweak as necessary.

    I haven't done banners yet, but it is my understanding that they work well.

    4) Run your content campaign for a week or so then do a site placement report. You can kill crappy sites under tools>Site and Category Exclusion

    You will need to run either google conversion tracking or tracking software to know where your conversions are coming from to tweak your campaign.

    Once you know where you are getting good conversions setup a site placement for that page, your ROI should increase dramatically.

    Continue to tweak your campaign using site placement reports and excluding crap sites and site placement ads on those converting well...

    5) There are two ways you can do placement.

    1. Search your keywords in google and find adsense sites in the top 30 to 50 results and run your ads on those pages and test to see what converts well.

    2. Use the content network and trackng to find good converting sites then run a placement ad to those converting well.

      Google explains the QS for content, and it determines the types of sites your ad gets placed on and the bid price and number of impressions you get.

  • The trick to quick success with the content network is to observe which sites routinely appear on sites you frequently visit in your niche. Then just plug in the site URL on some keyword scraping tool.

    You then grab the keywords, plug them in, and remove sites that have lots of impressions but receive no clicks. Don't forget to remove social networks and parked domains from sites that you delete. You can click the required checkboxes to do this in one swoop under site and category exclusions.

    I use both Placement and Content Network. Why keep yourself to one slice when you can have the whole cake?

  • I used to belong to a coaching program and we was told to make ad-groups for the content network and limit them to clusters of 50 keywords. Apparently Google only use the first 50. I have run campaigns with some success generally paying around 7-10c per click, but this depends on what offer you are promoting. You do really need to work out what conversion rate you are aiming for and put this against your earnings, then estimate your maximum cost. Once you have done this test and play with the bidding a little, say every 4 -5 hours drop down a few cents until you reach an optimum once you have started receiving impressions. I generally start higher than usual and then lower gradually.

    To get the most from your campaigns I would highly suggest using some sort of tracking script to track everything, Prosper is very good at this. Secondly, maybe use a rotation script to rotate your offers if you are direct linking...

    • I don't think it is the first 50, but 50 total for each ad group. I have put 100 keywords in to an adgroup for content and through in several strange ones and got traffic for most of those keywords even though they were not in the first 50.

      Which means you can have 200 keywords, but only 50 will be used to theme your adgroup. More like a random 50, my theory based on the testing I did is that they pick disimilar keywords to build the theme on, so if you have a few that are a little off, they probably will get used.

      Google recommends tight ad groups and provides examples in the link I provided prior, it is a must see. You want a broad theme, not just similar keywords.

      You will get better results that way.
