Hello

I was wondering if I could get some advice.

I am currently building a site in the acne niche, currently the site has around 5 pages and I intend to build it up to an authority site. My concern is backlinks and I am not sure what the best way of progressing.

Should I;

a. Just focus on building content and my site and not worrying about backlinks - get a 30 page site, continue adding content but then look at submitting my previous pages of content to directories.

b. focus on both, add a page of content get it indexed and then build backlinks via article directories, blog commenting, videos, document sites etc.

I have found a SEO service that offers linkwheels, would it be worthwhile if I just focus on building content to the site and then paying for 1 linkwheel a week to boost traffic to 1 chosen post per week?

Thanks

Well, in my opinion the best way is that you should complete the on page optimization first!! Write some qualitative content for your pages and adjust your meta accordingly!!

After Completing the On Page Optimization you should focus on gathering quality backlinks for your site!!

Build your site with great content first and foremost, doesn't have to be a big site initially but make sure the content is accurate and relevant.

Then start to add backlinks that are again relevant to your content. The more content your site has, the more backlinks you can add.

You must always provide fresh content, then look to add more backlinks.

Content, backlinks, more content, more backlinks; this way search engines will keep seeing your site as relevant to your niche.

Posting articles on directories such Squiddo are a great way to drive traffic too...

Look to ping your sites also, try:-

      Good luck

You need the right mix of both. But backlinks can be an all consuming job as well so if you don't have time for both then you might consider hiring. But both is necessary and you have to find the right mix.

      1. Focus on content first
(not only text - but include pictures, diagrams, videos if possible etc.)

      2. Then focus on site usability
This is what most people forget or ignore completely - because they don't understand how important it is. You want people not only to come to your site but stay there - view as many pages as possible, bookmark it, come back later and even recommend your site.
So think about your site structure and internal linking etc.

      3. Then do link building.
But I would not recommend outsourcing it to people that you don't know.
You mentioned link wheels. So I guess you want to do link building only for SEO purposes.
Big mistake. Build links that will get you real traffic from people who are interested in your topic. This means participate in forums related to your topic, do some high quality intelligent blog commenting, do guest blogging and so on.
Find where your customers hang out - then go to these places and try to get a link from those site.

Thank you to all of your replies.

I do understand that quality content is essential and I pride myself on writing excellent quality.

Based on replies I think Ill focus on getting a good 20-30 page site up and running and then look into building quality back-links and continue adding new content.

I think my main problem is I see something shiny ( a new technique) and go for it, which results in me not doing anything.

    Thanks again

      Don't worry about this.

This is a problem many marketers face, it is easy to let your mind stray from what you should be doing and a look at this and that because everything looks like you could benefit from it. But you really must stay focussed on one task at a time, complete, then do the next task etc.

It took me ages to learn that strategy planning was essential. How ever good something may seem, don't waiver stick to your tasks. You will really be surprised how making a list (preferably in a diary so that you have reference) and ticking them off can keep you focussed.

      Good luck
