Do this or risk of losing everything :(

This has happened to one of my sites. I have lost all the information, all the content. The website was no longer existent. I had to start again from scratch.

Every now and again, hosting companies mess up, and you can lose your wordpress websites(the content, everything).

In order to avoid this, I would advise you to download this free plugin(no opt in required) and install it on your wordpress theme.

Good luck!

Its always a good idea tto backup, but your going to need to backup more then just the database, you need to backup all of your files as well.

I'll do a database dump, then I will use FTP to download the entire html directory on the server.

In fact, I did 2 dumps of the database, and downloaded the entire html directory last night.

Wish this thread was around sooner, just happened to one of my sites. I'm so rattled.

So stupid..spent a whole day on it yesterday actually.

Is there any way how to re find our content or something?

As far as I know, there isn't. Try and contact your hosting company and see if they can do anything. I usually save copies of my posts, pictures, an affiliate links on my computer just in case. But I also use that plugin.

Always locally backup both your html and your database. If backing up your database is too advanced for you, ask your hosting company if they offer a daily backup service.

Seriously why would you not back up your files? :/ I make all my pages on my pc before I upload them and just keep the same file structure on my pc as well as on my web server. I suppose thats another pluss of having a bespoke website instead of relying on crappy word press.

What happened if your hosting company had burned down etc? My friend has how own web design company and he didn't have any of his clients pages backed up. I gave him a sturn talking to about it. His company would be bankrupt if they lost his data. I guess what seems common sense to me isn't for others

I think backing up is one of the most important things to do if you want websites that will exist for years. You don't want to take such high risks.

This applies to internet marketers, web design companies , seo consultants.

Hostgator. They have a great team, but they couldn't do anything .Luckily I had all my posts saved on my computer, pictures and everything else. So it wasn't that hard to do it all over again. Just time consuming, but some people don't save up their information on the computer, which makes it very hard to start again.

I was hoping you didn't say HostGator, because I have the same host too! Now I'm afraid that my files will get deleted, because I haven't saved any of my content on my computer. I tried to install the plugin, but it didn't work for me...

Try installing it through the cpanel...if that doesn't work, try using ftp. It will definitely work. I have actually installed it on one of my sites a couple of minutes ago.
I would also advise you to copy all your content and paste it in some notepad docs.

After you install the plugin, you can also create a backup straight away and save it on your computer. Just go to your cpanel an then tools, backup and then it is self-explanatory.

          I hope this helps!

Hi mince001, I am talking to HostGator live chat right now. They say they run automated weekly backups and you can restore your back up for a charge of $15.

When I have asked them, they did not offer this
It's all fine now though. I have reconstructed the site

Install the plugin though. Don't risk it

Most times you can recover your content from the Google cache, If you act as soon as you lose the site.

Still the cache isn't a replacement for backing up a site.

    Just saying,
