How Do You Track Clickbank Affiliate Sales With Adwords?

I am promoting a Clickbank product and doing very well with Adwords and I want to scale it up by adding more keywords but I don't know how to track conversions since I do not have access to the merchant thank you page.

    Here is a thread where we discussed tracking article links for clickbank... It has a ton of good information in it.

    The same thing would apply to tracking for adwords.

    The downside is it is a pretty manual process.

    You could also look at free tracking software like Tracking202 (service) or Prosper202 (self hosted) designed for PPC to Affiliate network and it can do direct linking too. Also it will cloak your afiliate links so the network won't get your keywords.

    There is always paid software as well, I like Affiliate Prophet, it will track the time a visitor is on your site by keyword and predict the good keywords with about 100 visitors.

    It has some other cool features as well.

    I hope this helps.

    If you have any questions feel free to give me a shout...

      I'm still a little confused about tracking sales I make as an affiliate. Is the only option I have to contact the merchant and ask if they'll place a tracking pixel on their "thank you" page?

        No... Tracking software allows you to do it with clickbanks built-in tracking. Or you can add that tracking id yourself. With clickbank they have what is called a TID that you can add to your hoplink.

        http://www.clickbank.com/hoplink_faq.html#hoplink_question_3

        So there are several ways to use the Tracking ID built into clickbank.

        The thread I previously provided showed you how to add a TID code yourself manually. You can also use software that does it for you like Prosper202 which is free or many of the paid tracking software available.

        If you go the manual route your hoplink would look like:

        http://AFFILIATE.PUBLISHER.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=zzzzz

        Where the ?tid= is added so you can track your sales. You would use a different TID for each keyword, you could use numbers than chart a number to a keyword for instance.

        1=keyword 1
        2=keyword 2
        etc

        Then add that number to the TID in your link for each keyword. Now if you are direct linking you do that in your destination URL in adwords.

        If you are sending traffic to a landing page you would add the variable like described in the thread provided previously than pull that variable at the landing page, and add it to your hoplink TID.

        So your ads destination link would look like 'yoursite.com/landingpage.html?w=kw1'

        Then pull that variable with the code provided in the previous thread and add it to your clickbank hoplink TID as shown.

        You can then go into clickbank and see which TID's are making you sales without having to contact the publisher. You log into your clickbank account go to 'reporting' than 'analytics'... You will see all your TID's, how many hops to each and how many sales for each and totals for both hops and sales.

        If you go the tracking software route you create tracking links in the software and it adds a TID for you automagically and then you update the software with a clickbank sales report or by updating the TID's that actually made sales and it will track for you.

        The cool part about the tracking software is that it will track all sorts of metrics for you as well.

        You can try Prosper202 or tracking202 for free. It is pretty easy to get up and running and will allow you to track without having to go to the publisher.

        Or you can add variables to your links and update your TID's with the code provided in the previous thread.

        You have a couple of choices.

        I hope this helps...

        Good Luck.

          This is gonna sound really naive now but I must be missing something here !

          What other useful info will using tracking202 give me if I am already using sub-id's and getting the converting keywords direct from the affiliate network ?

          eg. if for example i had 100 clicks on a campaign and I can see where those clicks were spent and I can also see on the affiliate network that 3 of the keywords converted, surely you just bin the other keywords that didn't convert ?

          hope someone can enlighten me further..

          thanks
