Optimizing h1 headline

I use a fairly long headline (21 words) but my keyword phrase is only 3 words. I'm able to arrange my coding so that only the keyword phrase is tagged h1.

Is this a good strategy to give extra weight to my keywords or is the effect negligible? Would it be better to tag the whole headline h1?

  • Personally, I believe only tagging the keyword phrase would be more effective here. Everyone seems to have their own opinion on this, though.

    Maybe you could try splitting the headline into two lines. Put the h1 tag around the keyword and give it its own line, and then simply bold the rest of the headline.
  • If it's at ALL possible, ONLY use your keywords in the headline. 21 words is incredibly long and probably not necessary.

    Shorten your headline and try to place the main keywords for the page as close to the beginning of the headline as possible.

    I don't believe headline has a big impact... I focus more on keyword, content relevance to keywords, and keyword density on content..
  • No problem with your phrase in the h1 tag as long as your keyword is there.

  • How about splitting such a long headline into two. Put your keywords in the H1 tag, and then the rest in the H2 tag. Both are good for SEO, and if you have your CSS set up right, they will look the same to the viewer.
  • well according to the latest change in the algo google has kept the weight on keywords to 0.1 out of 10.........but headlines can give you better result optimizing them
