Which SEO method is the best?

There is no other way of SEO if you are looking for a long run. Black hat SEO, you may get ranking for a while but soon you will be penalized by the search engines, so it is always better to use white hat method.

SEO is a long term thing - black hat techniques always put you at risk of being penalized, especially over the long term. White hat is the only SEO you should ever consider.

If you are after the immediate ranking on search results or improving your page rank, you can go with black hat but it will be good for a limited time only since search engines will ban your website once they found out that you are black hatting. are you talking about ethics or success of your site? Black hat works, just like crime works in the real world. Are you going to get caught? maybe, maybe not. Thats the risk you take.

White hat is more ethical, like working in a supermarket, but black hat can get you rich quick like robbing a bank.

I suppose it depends on how you view your site. If you are gonna do black hat though, set up your site so it is in no way related or connectable with any of your white hat sites.

If you want a long term, trusted business then go white hat.

As long as you are not caught by the search engine, Black Hat Techniques may give you good results.. but if the SE caught you, your site will be banned and never get the listing in SERPs... Choice is yours

It is the white hat SEO methods almost all web masters use to promote web sites online. But there are evidences of web site which came top of Google using the black hat methods. Mainly using ideas in back hat methods are keyword stuffing, cloaking methods and hiding text in separate area or putting the text in the same color same as that of layout color. But if Google notices this method you web site will get penalize and will come down from SERP results. Hence it is better to use White hat methods with SEO.

I've always equated black hat tactics with get rich quick schemes. You might make a little money for a while but eventually it comes back to bite you in the a$$. If you are taking your business seriously, white hat is the only answer.

This is a funny question. It is googles stance that any linkbuilding done by you to your own site is Black hat.

They say provide quality content and then other people will link back to your content. If you do it yourself in any way this is Black hat. So we are all Black hatters.

There is some serious confusion around the meaning of these two words. For most warriors "black hat" means you are breaking a law or doing something illegal.

For Google, "black hat" would mean:

- profile links (they consider it link "spam")
- a blog network of high PR sites
- paying an outsourcer to get your high PR blog comments
- paying to get links from sites like build my rank
- link wheels

Google considers all of these activities to be gaming the system. Their definition of SEO is "create great content, cross your fingers and wait for us to find you".

If you're SEO strategy is more detailed than that then you're probably doing something "black" or "grey" to them.
