I am a subscriber to this service but lately I have seen blog posts telling people that such strategy is not effective anymore, how true is this?

No it is not as effective as it once was.
But if you do enough of them, you will rank. By enough, I mean thousands.

It's best if you vary your backlink sources, don't depend on these links alone.

Not nearly as effective as it once was. I'd recommend it as one of the "bottom barrel" linking activities if you have absolutely nothing else left to do.

They also generally require a lot of work to get indexed, and webmasters tend to take them down quickly when they notice a HUGE number of new user signups/spam.

There's a warrior on here that has a link packet service. I think it's Joe Finn. I subscribed to them and I think his links are pretty high quality...although I'm sure years from now they'll be worth a lot less, unfortunately. By then someone else will come along with new links!

Let's just cut to the chase ... Angela and Paul are selling Link Spam. Even if you're told otherwise, these links are spam links.

Use them and you will see many webmasters deleting the unused "profiles" and even worst yet ... Google slaps you sill by deindexing your site for using spam links. The more of these you use, the higher your chances of having your site dealt the wrath of Google.

Do something worthwhile with your $$$$ and your time.

Network with people, interact with readers, go out and find your own links.

Yeah I agree, they have been spammed a lot my so many people that webmasters have started deleting such profiles.

      Google slap is another risk...

Its better to go for other link building strategies than these... After all, our time is limited and there is just so much we can do in 24 hours, its better to focus the time on more productive tasks

It's not just them...mass link building and profile linking are all being phased out. My advice is to start focusing on very high quality blog comments, forum postings (on threads where there's a lot of continuous traffic) and getting likes for your webpage, Google plus one votes and tweets.

I've been experimenting with all 12 sites in my network and over the past two months, some serious changes have taken place....and it seems to be just the beginning.

I've recently dumped all automated back link building and am paying my writers to manually submit comments on forums and blogs and asking people to click the social vote buttons on my sites. Links of sites with a lot of continuous traffic and the social votes are working the best for me these days. What used to take 200 crappy links to accomplish can now be accomplished with 50 good ones. Especially since the Panda update.

I guess its less about the links being "profile links" and more about them actually have anything worthwhile on the link location. Try adding good content to each profile link and submit them to many locations to get them indexed and it will still be very effective.

More and more are witnessing this with their links.

      But they think "It's $5.00" ...

      It's a shame actually.

I'm not a fan of profile links in general, they have limited content, usually come from irrelevant niches and have no impact at all unless you drive many other links to them to promote them. Too much time and effort for such a small effect.

But this has nothing to do with the actual link from the profile.

      These are useless links.

Not even 10 cents, let alone the $5.00 being charged for it.

This is where the deception comes to play. Angela and Paul lead you to believe these links are high PR, but they are not. They have zero PR, no value and are spam links.

They have to have some value. The page may be PR0, but the juice will flow from the domain and any other page that links to it.

What is the value of these link is a subject that will be debated ad nauseum. If you don't like them, don't use them. But I wouldn't leave them out of the mix, but that is just me.

Here is the problem though... The main domain that has the high PR never has any direct link to the individual profile. You might have to track through 5-6 links to find a link between the main domain and the individual profile. At that point, the link juice has diminished to almost nothing.

A domain with a high PR does not automatically pass that PR onto every page under the domain. It only passes it to pages it links directly to. There is no such thing as Domain Rank.

    Exactly Mike.

That's the problem I have with how Angela & Paul are promoting these link packets.

I know that there is no specific recommendation to post by Paul's links but do the value of the links go up if you actually post (assuming the links are in the signature and not the just the bio). At a minimum each post would bring new links wouldn't it?

I bought a package and have done some links. Have not really seen anything dramatic. Then I read this thread and became concerned it could do harm. Some of the answers indicated that there was a possibility to actually do damage.

I don't mind trying something, it wouldn't be the first time I have wasted my time but I don't want to kill a site either.

For those who think the links have lost effectiveness. Is it do to overuse of the links that come in the package or that Google has fundamentally change the way it values Profile links.

Is there still a value in going out and looking for boards on your own to post profile links to? I am also try to find and actually post to ones that are somewhat relevant (some days are more successful than others in this regard) but I usually try to at least leave a profile since I have already have taken the time to find the site.

I'll give you my perspective on this. I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination. Someone with much more experience and knowledge may chime in.

These links are basically spam links. They are created for to soul purpose of obtaining the link. They have very little relevant content to the site you are pointing to and in many cases they pass very little authority.

In many cases, these links are never indexed by Google (and if you're creating a tonne of them, the work to get them all indexed isn't going to be worth it).

These may come from sites that have authority, but the person who promotes these as being HIGH PR links such as Angela & Paul are misleading you. Sure, the main site may have a very high PR but the link you will get is insignificant at best.

Many of these links get deleted shortly after the packets are released. Do you think the webmasters don't see a sudden swell in registrations and wonder what's up?

          Hope this helps.

Profile links are still effective. Search for 'dive watches for men' on google, the first result will be a sniper site targeting the keyword. Check its backlinks on yahoo site explorer... all profile links. So, yes they are still effective.

I have heard more than one person refer to getting them indexed is the hard part. Is there something that you should do to try to get them indexed or are you more talking about there is some random chance involved in when or whether Google indexes them or the fact that many may be removed by admins at the board.

I don't think that's light competition. I wouldn't say it's unbeatable, but it is fairly moderate competition. You definitely couldn't get to #1 by just on-page seo for that keyword so clearly, the links are helping. And the keyword is extremely profitable. The site probably makes $300-$600/month by being #1 for this keyword, which it got by profile links. That's impressive.

The competition for that search is EXTREMELY weak. None of the sites are targeting that keyword. And I highly doubt they are making $300-600/month.

They are promoting Amazon. Most of those watches are around $80 on Amazon with a few up around $300. Amazon pays what? 4%? Maybe 5%? Been awhile since I did any Amazon campaigns. So even a $300 sale nets $15. The lower end watches are making them $2-5.

With only 1900 searches, which means probably 1200 visitors or so, I doubt they are converting enough traffic to sniff $300/month from that keyword.

Look, the fact is, you could not rank #1 for that kw with just on-page seo. Just because other sites aren't specifically targeting that exact kw does not mean you can rank #1 for it. CLEARLY, the links are helping it rank higher, ergo they are valuable.

And actually, I think you could rank #1 in that SERP with mostly on-page SEO and internal links.

Yes, the profile links help in this case because NOBODY is trying to rank for that term.

They are as valuable as any other PR 0 or PR n/a link, which is about as close to as useless of a link as you can get.

Yes it is still effective as far as I know, however getting them indexed is one of the most important yet tough part (try link indexing software/service).

Do your own due diligence with back links analyser - you can find out what works well! ahrefs is my favourite. they have a free account with limited facility that you can try.

you can also try another method that depends on your budget - host sites on high pr domains (I use godaddy auction) and work on tiered process of link building; should work well.

      cheers.
