What is YOUR most successful backlinking campaign?

I'm having a hard time finding quality links that are relevant to a few of my websites. I do go to forums and do a little backlinking from there - but I used to go to sites like Hubpages, Squidoo and EZA...but since the Panda rollout and Google blacklisting them as "content farms", I don't write anymore articles.
I have backlinked from Youtube (created vids and such) - but it only allows you to put the link - no anchor text. I have done profile backlinking - that helps very little. I do go to a few blogs that are related to my site, but that's about it. So I'm basically backlinking from forums and blogs - something I really don't want to do since these are low quality links.
Just wondering (and I'm talking to ppl that has had experience AND success here) - how do you backlink? Do you backlink from relevant websites? In other words - through your own experience - what is your most successful backlinking campaign?

My method is still working, which is basically getting a large variety of links. I used to only get article directory links from quality article sites and that worked well but after Panda gave less value to those sites and links my rankings dropped.

Now I get a tonne of backlinks from various sources and it has been working great. I have seen my traffic and earnings growing quite a bit.

There are many different ways to get backlinks and each of the methods takes time to learn and master. I have to agree that backlinking isn't as simple as it sounds.

Rather than getting super-in-depth with any single backlinking strategy,
I'm going to provide you with a list of ways to get backlinks that hopefully may help.

Testimonials - Testimonials will commonly have a link to your website within them to prove the testmonial is real. This will give you a free backlink if the company likes your testimonial and uses it on their website. And -- it doesn't hurt to ask them to put a live link in the testimonial!

Press Releases - you could get HIGH quality backlinks and your business gets put in front of readers, not a bad deal!

RSS Directories - submitting your RSS feed to these directories your website gets a link back to it.

Joint Partnerships/Co-Branding - If you have any, ask them if they will link back to your website.

Quality Content - provide high quality, or powerful stuff that people will be compelled to share it naturally. If you have good content that people enjoy so much, they'll tweet, like, blog, and comment it. Structure your content towards your audience, always. If you can do that consistently your fans and readers will do a big chunk of your link building for you.

If your site is over 6 months old, with over 5 pages of content, and has a few backlinks already, Homepage Backlink Services work well.

I was most successful building my own network of 5 or so sites for the purpose of backlinking. Took a lot of time though.

BMR has returned some nice results as well.
