    Exact searches should be at least 1500, imo.

      If it is a high paying niche and buying keyword that will make me good money on amazon and adsense then 1500+

      If my CTR will be lower I want it to be over 30 000

      The important factor is your niche, and keywords you target, that is where the money is

        Hi filippot51,

        Since your question, as asked, provides no specific context, it begs for a generalized answer:

        Since the higher the monthly searches the better, I would say 1,000,000 would be a good number. Anything less than 1 million would be less good and anything more would be better.

        If you provide the context in which you want an answer we can get more specific.

        As a general rule the higher the search volume the greater the potential traffic. However, the value of that traffic will vary greatly depending on factors like ambiguousness, commercial intent and relevancy to your offer.

        The above formula can be applied specific ranking positions to determine which position to target for the highest profit.

        To determine whether a particular volume is good for your purposes you will need to consider the following:
        • Relevancy of the keyword to your offer
        • Ambiguousness of the keyword
        • Commercial value of a click through to your offer.
        • Strength of top competitors for that particular keyword
        • The costs you will incur to obtain a top listing

        The process boils down to the following formula:

        VPC - CPC = ROI

        Where:
        VPC = Value Per Click
        CPC = Costr Per Click
        ROI = Return On Investment

        Determine the value of a click and compare it to the cost of the click to determine the ROI. Decide what you think is a "good" ROI and compare the result to your standard for a "good" ROI.

    Actually for everyone should follow exact match domain, exact match will give you read data about search. If you are going to make adsense site you should go for at least 2000 exact search and cpc $1. otherwise it won't be worth investing time and effort.

    But for affiliate site and good buyer keyword its 1500 good.

    Thanks

    my market for now is affiliate so i need to consider 1) people coming to my website and 2) people going to the vendor ,and 3) people that eventually buys from the vendor.
    I'm a beginner and I don't have experience.I have choosen for 2 websites wrong keywords one has exact 800 and another 1300 the one with exact searches 800 i have 7-8 people a day and im for that keyword 4 and 5 place for that keywrd search in first page.(is this blog destiny to have always those little visitors? can i benefit in someway of my 4 and 5th place actually also if i have 880 900 for [exact] math,or just to say it blunt my blog is in a desert alley and noone is going to watch it anyway also if i was in first position of the keyword search?
    For the other keyword the one with 1300 exact im in 12 position on google searches for that keyword and im getting 25 people a day.Now improving my position from 12th in second page to say 4 5 place of keyword search in first page ,will increase the number of my visitors?or i was wrong from the beginning to choose a so low number of [exact] searches?

      Hi filippot51,

      You need to form a keyword targeting strategy. There are many potential strategies, but you can break them down into just 2 groups that will be successful.
      1. Targeting a single, or small group of high search volume keywords
      2. Targeting a large group of low search volume keywords (often referred to as long tail)
      You can use either or both types of targeting strategies, but you need to include at least one of these two if you ever hope to achieve enough traffic to make your efforts commercially viable.

      Depends on what you are looking to accomplish. I don't think you did wrong. Here is my thought process for this decision. I just published a dozen articles to a blog of mine. The total search volume for all of these article keywords was less than 9,000. Between 500-800 each, according to GKT.

      So should I have ignored those keywords because of the low volume? I don't think so as I target nearly 9,000 visitors all together. And they should be pretty easy to rank for. It took a lot of articles to go after that volume, but getting the articles written is much easier than all the work to rank a much more competitive keywords.

        I agree. If I find a good niche with high cpc for example, I don't care what the volume is. I will write an article based on all the keywords..it all adds up anyway.

      And you're saying your site ranks 5th on the first page for the keyword [ps3]? Impossible... Try checking the results page in an incognito window or delete your web history.

    Like Tim Pears said, you could target many keywords that do not have many exact searches per month as long as TOGETHER they add up to a larger amount. (This, of course, assumes that you are able to rank for all of them).

    Personally, I prefer at least 3000, but usually more, exact searches per month.

    It is usually somewhat difficult to rank first, and you have to consider that after the 1st position, the traffic drop-off is quite substantial.

    For instance, 1st place receives ~42% of traffic, 2nd less, 3rd less, and by the time you get to 4th and 5th, and 6th and 7th it is barely any traffic. That's why you should take target more, or focus on less searches, but many keywords.

    Gooday filippot,

    My 2 cents worth... the way to achieve MORE traffic is to create MORE webpages and have them index will for longtail keywords.

    In fact the way i'm creating websites is first to list down the exactly number of short and longtail keywords I'm going after. eg:

    Main keywords: motorcycles for sale, motorcycle for sale
    longtail keywords: motorcycles for sale in california, harley davidsons for sale, red motorcycle for sale, big motorbikes for sale, etc.

    Note that each longtail keyword page gives you 1 or 10 or more unique visitors a day..

    This method obviously depends on whether you're trying to create Mirco-niche sites (10 pages max) or authority sites (can be 50, 100 or more pages)... I'm obviously into creating the later.

    Cheers,

    Aki
