I used to do just Forum backlinking along w/ article submission to now known as "Content Farms" by Google - so I rarely do anytype of backlinking except by forums.

Just wondering if anyone in here just do backlinking from forums and if so, do you backlink from a lot of relevant forums or do you just backlink from just a couple?

Sometimes I do a little bit a profile backlinking (and ping the profile page to get it indexed faster), but that's about it.

Well, Forum backlinks are very effective ones but you should go for other ways as well like blog comments, article submission etc

Article submissions are usually part of the now called "content farms" by Google. Basically, it won't get you anywhere. I know that EZA was blacklisted by G.

So if EZA was blacklisted by google, does that mean they just don't count those links, or are you saying that links from EZA would actually hurt a site's ranking?

No - it won't hurt. Matt Cutts says that article marketing just does not work anymore. Then Google comes out w/ a list showing Hubpages, Squidoo, GoArticles, EZA are considered "content farms" (this is from the Panda rollout). So you can still get referral traffic but the backlinks w/in the articles from what I know don't work anymore. If they do - they are very light weight.

Blacklisted? I think you are using the wrong word lol. EZA was not blacklisted it was maybe penalized, but I feel that is even to strong of a word. Why dont you go tell alexa that article marketing doesnt work.

Article marketing was never supposed to be just a way of getting backlinks. It was a way to get well written articles syndicated. Once these articles get syndicated you get tons of very relevant heavy weight links. However I still use mass article submissions to create many relevant links back to my sites. For you to say that they dont work is just wrong.

Another thing to remember is that you want a variety of links pointing back to your site not just forum profiles or just article links. What would happen if google decided to devalue forum profiles one day?

    Hi Bigcat,

Forum backlinks are still a key part of my backlinking strategy. I tend to focus on relevant forum profiles, but more useful backlinks are found my posting with the link in the post or in your signature. Even though I use alot of forum backlinks, it is very important to have a well balanced backlink portfolio. Get as many good backlinks as you can, from as many sources as you can. That has worked well for me.
