I'm about to start my first wordpress site and was wondering if I could get some advice on stuff like which themes to use (site is gonna be made for adsense), which plug-ins to get, etc. Any tips would be appreciated.

- Thanks

For Adsense, definitely look into Clickbump Engine for a theme and the Jumpstart and Clickbump SEO plugins. Once you have those, you're basically already 90% set for success, and they will pay for themselves in no time.

The reviews in my sig explain them a little if you want to read about how awesome they really are.

Not sure which themes are free, try Bluesense or Heatmap. For plugins, go with All in One SEO Pack, Google Sitemap Generator, and WP Optimize.

Does using wordpress have a significant advantage over using blogger? I've been using blogger for years and I'm really familiar with it so it's much easier for me to use. Also, custom domains are only $10 whereas for wordpress, they're $17... Would it hurt to use blogger rather than WP?

You can buy a custom .com domain at namecheap for about $10 USD.

I use namecheap to buy domains, & hostgator to host the sites.

Also use blogspot for the last 5 years.

So if I buy the domain on namecheap, how do I implement it on to WP? Sorry, I'm a complete newbie...

The way it works is like this:

          1) When you buy a domain at namecheap they will park the domain (no content just namecheap ads).

          2) Inside the namecheap Admin. you'll have a place to enter the hostgator Name Servers, example:

          A) ns1728.hostgator.com

          B) ns1729.hostgator.com

The Name Servers will be on the hostgator Cpanel screen, after you buy hosting.

Name Servers are what connect the domain name (hxxp://domain.com/ ) to your hosting/website.

It doesn't matter If you buy hosting or domain first.

Since I'm gonna be using WP, I wouldn't need to purchase hosting from hostgator, right?

Wordpress is now widely believed to be the best platform for website or blog because of the flexibility and community working on the platform offering large variety of plugins, which to some extent are available in blogger but not as exhaustive as wordpress.Of course, you always have a choice.I would say Wordpress provides a professional feel for your business/blog.And blogger is usually the beginner stuff.I recommend you graduate to Wordpress. The few dollars more is worth it.

The only WP (wordpress) I've ever used was self hosted on hostgator.

I'm not sure WP (free) will let you do anything related to IM (internet marketing).

Do they let you redirect the WP (free) sub domain to a paid domain?

I know blogspot does that, I'm not sure about the free WP site?

If your serious about IM I would go with a self hosted site on hostgator.

After you setup the first 2 sites it's really easy, I think I setup my last site in about 15 min. (namecheap + hostgator).

Because you asked about free tools. The Quick Adsense plugin for WP is quite popular and free : WordPress › Quick Adsense « WordPress Plugins

But I have not used it myself, so I cannot confirm this.

Even though you are using WP you still have to have a company host the WordPress files on their server and they will also deliver the content. That is why you need something like HostGator.

You can find many guides online that will explain a step by step process of how to set up WordPress on your own hosting. In my opinion you should just take the time to learn how to do it. Most hosts even have a one button set up process. Whoever you decide to host with will have that in their manuals or documents on the website. If you really need help you can call customer support and the rep will be able to walk you through how to do it.
