What does "backlinking to edu or gov sites" means

As i have read from the post. Every body talks about the edu or gov site. And create backlinks from them. But i am not able to understand what which kind of backlinks.
1 Profile backlinks
2 forum posts/ signature backlinks
3 blog comments

So please tell me or all of above backlinks have equal effect when it is an edu/gov site.

  • Not sure what you are trying to say...

    But I'll try to do my best in answering this: EDU and GOV domains have
    higher authority to sites - They're definitely one of the best links to have
    around, but they aren't a must.
  • edu - Stands for "education" & is found on education related sites with the domain extension .edu

    gov - Stands for "government" & is found in government sites with the domain extension .gov

    These sites are looked at as more trusted sites in the eyes of Google & links from them are said to carry more weight – help increase your search engine ranking position.

    Personally I don’t bother with them as they’re usually just forum profile links which in my opinion are crap.

  • How does one really get a legitimate edu and gov links? isn't it that you must be connected to the site (like you being a site administrator for the gov or edu) before you can link to them?
