Purchased PR3 Domains

I recently bought a couple of expired PR3 domains, as soon as I changed hosting and loaded up a Word Press script within a few hours the went to PR0. I did all the check for fake PR etc before I bought them and all seemed okay.

They were not expensive or anything, but it's a little annoying. Any ideas why this happens from the experts out there for future ref ?

I was always under the impression page rank is done every few months and not overnight ?

  • I know there's a number of free tools out there to check PR but personally I always check for fake PR with scrapebox.

    After I do the fake PR check I then analyze the backlinks of the domains that are being offered for purchase and check those backlinks PR.

    Often times, some scammers can either A) Fake the PR or B) Link to the domain from their own network to artificially inflate the PR then remove them.

    Now granted, it's a lot easier to see if the PR is being faked than being inflated but you can begin to see patterns. For instance, 50 backlinks coming from one pr4 blog, etc.

    • Thanks for that, so in essence PR can be pulled instantly on a site if it has been inflated ?
  • I didn't think it could be pulled instantly. I was under the impression it would last until the next page rank update. However, you should definitely dig into the backlink profile of a potential site to make sure the links match what the page rank is looking like.
  • If it's expired, chances are there will be an impact once Google runs its next update.

    That's one of the reasons why I'm sitting on a few PR3 domains that I've had for 10 years. Trying to decide whether to sell or utilize.
  • I experienced this with a PR1 domain once. Nowadays, I look for aged PR domains that has never been dropped ...
