Do Previously Banned Site Fare Poorly in SERPs?

I found a pretty awesome domain name that's two words and is a very board term but I'm not sure if it has ever been banned. Is there a way to check to see if a site has ever been banned? I'm asking because the site was previously bought. Also if the site WAS banned then is there any chance to get it ranked?

It could still be banned... Is it currently listed on Google when you search: site:domainname.com

If it does, I would assume it would have no effect on ranking. If not, it could be banned.

The site was out of commission for over 2 years now. Should previously registered domains still appear in the search engines?

Once a ban has been lifted, it will have no negative effect on SE rankings.

When the site was offline for 2 years you won't find it in SEs. You also won't have any trouble with bans when you go online with new content and new domain owner after 2 years.

Don't overcomplicate things, it will get you nowhere.
