First post and first site Qs

First I want to greet all the members. I am very pleased that this place exists, and there is no doubt that the Warrior Forum is place where many things (web related) can be learned.

A few days ago we launched first site but we still have no any rank on the Google! The site is optimized for "british pound symbol" KW, we have the EMD (exact match domain), but no indexed pages at all..

What is very strange for me is when I search in Google:
site:[my_domain_name]

I get some results, but when I go to the Google Webmaster Tools, the data say that sitemap.xml is downloaded and OK, the 28 submitted URLs, but none of the pages in show in the Google index! Indexed pages: 0

I have the following questions:
- How much is an average time for Google to index the pages I submitted in sitemap.xml?
- Did I made some mistakes in the on-site SEO optimization?
- Is it necessary at the beginning that I have a back links or not?

Since I am new to all this, any comments or help is welcome.

Regards

Hello, and welcome to the forum!

I would usually charge for this, but I'm in a good mood, so here it goes. First thing that strikes me:

You must realize that it takes a little while to achieve good rankings, it's not one of those overnight things. It takes proper onpage SEO as well as good quality backlinks.

Seems like a great keyword! low competition and a decent search volume, good job!

I can't explain that, your site is obviously indexed if it is showing up in the search results, I would say that there is some webmaster tools delay.

Otherwise, your sitemap may contain the "www." before your sites but the actual indexed pages do not, or vice verser?

Usually just a few days. Honestly I wouldn't worry about it. As long as you develop a strong backlinking plan, your pages will get indexed in no time!

No, your on-page optimization is great! I was expecting something that needs some work, but honestly, you have put your keywords in your heading tags, meta tags, throughout your content with a ~3.5% density, so everything is spot on.

(You said it was an EMD, I am assuming it is .com)

Yes, it is always necessary to have backlinks if you are targeting any half-decent keyword.

    Wow Dave! Thanks a lot!
These were fast and valuable answers!

Still, now I'm confused with what you said:
Otherwise, your sitemap may contain the "www" before your sites but the actual indexed pages do not, or vice verser?
For example, this is the one item in the my sitemap.xml:
    Code:
       <url>
<loc>mydomain</loc> ("mydomain" have the http and the www in front mydomain, but I'm not allowed to write it in this post because I have less than 15 posts on this forum)
          <changefreq>weekly</changefreq>
          <priority>0.8</priority>
       </url>
Other important thing is to note that I added two sites in Google Web Master Tools:
    - the mydomain dot com
    - and the www dot my domain dot com

This was because I was not able to set preferred domain for www dot my domain dot com (in Google Web Master Tools) until I added the mydomain dot com.

Maybe this was the first mistake I made in Google Web Master Tools?

Perhaps it was necessary to first add the mydomain dot com site in Google Web Master Tools, and then the www dot my domain dot com site?

    Cheers

You're right. Sitemap can be viewed by adding / sitemap.xml to mydomain dot com

btw, I made a little php script to update sitemap.xml daily. If you need it PM me.

Ok, well I can see a total of 22 pages showing up in the search results so they have definitely been indexed.

Seriously though, don't worry yourself with indexing. Just start backlinking and aim at ranking your site and this will all happen naturally.

I never even check if my own pages have been indexed and I never submit them to search engines. Just do the offpage SEO and these things will happen on their own.

uhm... maybe I'm just tired and cannot find the button or the link which should be used to thank you "officially". I mean:
Thanked 172 Times in 130 Posts
    How I do that?

Hahah there should be a little button next to my posts with "Quote" "Reply" "Thanks", etc.

Maybe you need more posts to thank people?

Oh well, just happy to help
