Confused on Keyword/SEO Analisis

Hey Warriors,

I recently have come up with a keyword/niche I would like to target but am not sure if I would be able to rank highly. For keyword analysis I have been using Traffic Travis, and according to their "difficult rating" they say my keyword is "very difficult". I have attached a snapshot of the report, and would like to know what you think. This way I can use your opinion as a reference point.

I'm just confused between the importance between BL (# of backlinks for that particular page) and BLS (# of backlinks for the entire site). I also know that backlinks are more about quality and relevance, rather then volume. As you can see in the snapshot the majority of the competing sites have low BL but high BLS. The other factors are that almost of all the sites have a pretty low PR, and the domain ages have highs and lows.

I understand that there are so many factors in SEO that it it may be difficult to estimate, but I would just like to get your opinion. Does the BLS (backlinks for the entire site) just influence PR, and the BL (backlinks for that page) show what I would need to compete?

Thanks for you time,

Maddison

The rankings a page gets doesn't come from TOTAL backlinks.. but rather just the links directly linking to that page. Homepage is just like any other page, and any other page is just like the homepage - except that homepage naturally gets more juice because other pages link to the home page but not always to every other page.

But, if that page is on the homepage of a site with 1.5 million backlinks, you can imagine it's going to get a huge boost. So it depends. The number itself doesn't matter, those 232 backlinks could be high quality so you need to do a run on the #1 competitor and check.

A quick check showed me high PR backlinks from The Hollywood Gossip - Celebrity Gossip and Entertainment News, TV Fanatic - The latest news, episode guides, and spoilers from your favorite television shows, Anything Hollywood - Celebrity News | Latest Hollywood Gossip | Entertainment News, Celebrity Gossip and News - Celebuzz - all of which are PR6. Although the links are now gone.

Kendra Wilkinson all the way on bottom ull see a banner ad, and it's a dofollow from a PR5

another pr5 link on Roman Media Group - Design Print Web Logos Corporate Identity Print Business Cards Postcards Brochures Letterhead Website Web Design Search Engine Optimization SEO E-Commerce

Kendra Wilkinson News - Kendra Wilkinson Shares Her Slim Down Secrets (PHOTOS) - Celebuzz another PR5, anchor "Ad Cuts" dofollow which contributes a ton i believe

Real Housewives Feud of the Day: Gretchen Rossi Slams "Malicious" Tamra Barney - E! Online another PR5 dofollow backlink

    about 20 links from pr4, 15-20 from pr3, about 30 pr2, and the rest 1 or less.

most links use "Ab cuts" as anchor text so if that's your keyword it could be a little difficult. keep in mind the person doesn't have those keywords in title or description at all - and still ranks #1, so if he were to add those it would be very difficult to beat him

Thanks a lot Cosmit, that information was very helpful. Also what tool/program did you use to check the individual backlinks? Also that is my keyword, I guess I could of just said it in the first place.

I created mine, it's not out anywhere. But I'm sure there are plenty of other tools like ScrapeBox Link Checker and whatnot. I just have features that SBLC doesn't to fit my needs.

Also, I would suggest varying your anchor text between "ab cuts" and "abdominal cuts".

      Ab cuts 8.1k exact
      Abdominal cuts 9.9k exact

both are very similar so i suggest go for both of them if you choose to do it

That's another thing I was planning on to decide. I actually found the domain abcuts.org 2 weeks ago, and was just waiting around, then I guess according to WhoIs someone bought the domain 8/2/2011. I learned my lesson haha. I'll check SBLC out, thanks.

You have some serious competition for those keywords. Tread lightly.

Never be put off by competition, I know of people who with perseverance appear on page one of Google for "leads" a highly competitive keyword. How did they get there by building their own backlinks over a long period of time and not worrying about PR. It is better just to get into the trenches and provide good information on a daily basis, build a webpage a day with your own backinks and submit it to Google. It is as simple as that.

Thanks for the replies. I guess everyone has mixed opinions on the overall difficulty, but I think I'll never know till I try. Plus it would always be a learning lesson and give me some experience.

Hey! Traffic Travis 3 (the one you're using) has a good backlink checker...let's give a try! Otherwise I suggest you Seo Spyglass from Link Assistant.

You're right mate! Don't give up!

      PS
From TT report I see that none of the top 10 websites has got TBL (EDU / GOV): I'd try to build some of them for your site and use it in a pyramid...toghether with other strategies (article marketing, press release, social bookmarking, forum posting, blog commenting, high PR relevant backlinks, and so on) it could be boost a lot...
