Interesting case study on rankings

I've got a travel website ranking #2 as from today.

Haven't added content since November last year
and haven' added back links even longer.

The other interesting thing is that content was pulled manually from
article directories and Youtube.

Just changed the titles and a few words within the content when loading.

It was sitting #5 yesterday.

Beating out 10 year old domains, keyword in domain, higher page ranked.

Competitors include national airline and Government tourism website.

Could be more what the others are doing wrong, not so much me doing right!

Any changes in your website ranking in the last 24 hours?

Best,
Ewen

  • How did you do that then? Beating old domains, authority sites is just impossible sort of.. can you guess any specific reason?
  • May be just a QDF? Wait few more days and see...

    • Yeah I'm happy to do nothing but wait as the whole site is an experiment.

It was at #4 last week then went back to #5 until today.

It's got to be a combination of Google and others making changes.

  • Wait few days more and share feedback again with us, if it's standstill, then congratulations.

    • Yes I'll report back in a few days.

I've taken a screen capture to keep as a treasured memory if it it takes a tumble.

  • Nice job! Keep it up and you'll be number one. I personally believe that CTR from the SERPs is a part of the algorithm, as well as bounce rate back to SERPs after clicking on a result.

Therefore they could be testing your site and modifying results based on what I just mentioned. How much has your traffic gone up since you ranked #2?

    • The funny thing about this is that I'm not doing anything to the site or links...last back in November.

So "keep it up" will mean, do nothing! lol.

  • RevSEO, interesting theories and definitely makes sense given how the web is evolving.

Will all the Google Analytics data being compiled, it would only make send to factor these things into the algorithm.

I think a test is in order... Thanks.
  • How did your website rank back in November? Did your site came out of nowhere right on #2 spot?

    Anyway congrats!
