Using Image Ads Only?

Hey warriors,

after digging through my sites stats the last couple months I noticed a significantly higher CTR % with image/rich media ads, and a much higher earnings per click for these as well. The problem is I would say more than 95% of the time only text ads are displayed.

Don't get me wrong, text ads are working well, but not as well as image/rich media. So here's my question...

Is it a good idea to create a new ad that only displays image or rich media ads on my site for all visitors? Is there any reason I shouldn't do this?

  • I increase my Adsense earnings substantially when I moved to using 90% image ads. The effectiveness of this type of ad may vary from niche to niche.

Although there is anecdotal evidence pointing to decreased Adsense earnings subsequent implementation of a new ad code, I never noticed this; I say go for it.
  • Not sure how you have done your stats...

But if you make an ad block only image, you are blocking
the vast majority of advertisers. Not a good idea.

An image ad is chosen due to factors that make it more valuable
than any text ad. The QS factors in, as only one ad is shown
instead of multiple ones. Fraggler had this figured out somewhere
on this forum. The auction is dynamic.

My advice is to put all 3 ad blocks and make them all text/image.

Depends what niche you're in. There aren't nearly as many image ads as there are text ads. If the image ads are relevant to your niche, then that could see a ctr boost. Give it a test for few days.
  • Everyone has different results with they're experimentation's. The only way to tell which ads are doing better than others is simply to track your progress in the channels. I might get 90% more clicks through text ads than you because of my niche/website and vice versa. Can't really go off of anyone else's input when it comes to AdSense. You just have to test it for yourself!
  • Yea, it actually depends on your niche. As for me, image ads are not paying much comparing to text ads.
  • It also depends on the layout of your website why image ads may be performing better for you.

I've never experienced image ads outperforming my Text Link Ads; however, when properly optimized.
  • Image Ads can be more catchy other than simple text ads.
  • I think some time images ads can get attraction instead of text ads.
  • Both do well. Text ads will display more in same are so that there are chances that visitor will have choice to click what he likes ( You may get more clicks in this text ads). Where as Image ads pays you more but there is no choice of selection. There is no difference between them in terms of earning money.
  • image ads more attractive but text ads contain more banifits
