Hello there. May i ask if it is allowed for an adsense site to put other banner ads (paid ads)?

I am just confused... Can someone help me understand this please. If it is picture banner ad - it will not be different from their picture banner ad. Does it mean it is not allowed?

"In order to prevent user confusion, we do not permit Google ads or search boxes to be published on websites that also contain other ads or services formatted to use the same layout and colors as the Google ads or search boxes on that site. Although you may sell ads directly on your site, it is your responsibility to ensure these ads cannot be confused with Google ads."

Thanks very much!

Great issue and great post! I've dealt with this issue in the past. Let me give you an example. Let's say you've got a website and you put up an Adsense Ad (say a text banner for example) and then right under that you put an Adbrite text banner. What you'll end up with is one long text ad that's looks REALLY alike (at least to Google).

Google's Terms of Service/Terms of Use on this is open to several interpretation, but the best strategy is just to avoid it all together by doing the following:

    1. Stick with ONE type of click-for-cash ads -- if you've got Adsense Available to you, use that and nothing else. After all, why should you really?

    2. Putting up other CPA ads (like stuff from Commission Junction) is perfectly okay, too. Those don't get confused as being "google ads".

So, in short, don't mix Adbrite (or Yahoo! or Microsoft) and Adsense ads together on the same page. It will lead to trouble with Google and it just doesn't plan make sense: you're giving your visitors too many opportunities to "click" and you'll lose money in the long run because Adsense pays better than any of those other options at the moment!

Read the TOS. What if we gave a random answer and you ended up getting banned?

Actually Google's TOS (Adsense) doesn't cover this topic. Regarding Adsense, Google has a Terms of Service and then have "Google Adsense Program Policies".

The issue at hand is outlined in Google's Program Policies -- as is much of the issues up for debate regarding Adsense "dos and don'ts".

And the OP's issue comes with what's contained in the Program Policy and not the TOS, to wit:

      Competitive Ads and Services*

In order to prevent user confusion, publishers may not display Google ads or search boxes on websites that also contain other ads or services formatted to use the same layout and colors as the Google ads or search boxes on that site. Although you may sell ads directly on your site, it is your responsibility to ensure that these ads cannot be confused with Google ads.

And again, my whole take on the issue is to just avoid it all together. If you've got Adsense code on the page, stick with that and don't paste the page with other click ads similar to Adsense in look and concept.

Thank you for your reply, usuallyclueless! But the ad i am referring to is a paid ad (somebody would like to advertise on my site). He will be placing a banner ad (picture ad). So does it mean, i should not place any adsense picture ad so not to confuse Google? Or turn down the offer altogether? Of course my priority is adsense.. :-)

Nobody here works for google. They just speculate.
Me included. But the difference between and many, many here
who just cargo post, I actually read and hang on to every word
that google publishes. If I really wanted the answer, I would go
      to google.

Google does talk about this. They do allow other ads. BUT...it
cannot be similar to adsense and be mistaken for adsense.

      Read:

Do things like adbrite violate this? Does a regular banner ad you sell yourself violate
this? Those are NOT hard questions to answer.
