Blog commenting - what it really takes?

Are you doing blog commenting? Can you share what it takes? Is it as demanding as for me?

I am trying to learn how to do that right way. I search for blogs that accept comments, I read them and always try to contribute to the conversation.

Yet, on 90% of blogs, all my writings, each of which takes from 15 to 45 minutes, are simply gone as soon as I press the Submit button. And they never appear on the blog. The usual result that I see is comments before and after the date I have tried to post mine. And that's always the same, no matter how long I wait. My comments simply do not appear there even if I check back after a month or two.

So, if I work hard enough for about 12 hours, all I manage to harvest is just 2 or 3 comments that stick.

I know that commenting takes both time and effort. But the way it works for me seems, hmm, a little too tough.

I need to say all at once that I never spam, I do my best to contribute. But my comments do not appear even on blogs where there are tons of spam comments before and after my attempt.

Can anyone comment on this? What can I possibly be doing wrong?

So for example, here is a blog stuffed with spam comments so that it could not be worse.

blog.lib.umn.edu/raim0007/RaeSpot/040259.html

I normally do not comment on this type of pages. But here I made an experiment. I tried to leave a comment on August 8. See what type of comments are accepted there before and after. But mine is not there. Why? And this is really typical for wherever I try.

So I wonder if anyone experiences something similar. Or, even better, anyone who has found the reason for such and way out?

  • Are you using keywords in the Name field? That will get your comment dropped in some cases.

Try leaving a comment on my blog and I'll see if I can help you.

Oh my! I'm using my keyword in the name field. I think now I know why only few of my comments are getting approved. Thanks for this buddy.

... and, yeah, it is not platform related. For some time, I was thinking that it was only for Wordpress blogs where I was not able to comment. But now I find that this is the same also on other platforms.

Very, very, very few blogs allow me to comment.

Since I do not have other type of blog commenting experience, I would appreciate if you share yours...

Tell me, for example, how many manual blog comments approximately would you be able to produce working 12 hours only doing that? If you read my previous post, you may know that my score was 3 the other day

      Thanks, Fluffy!

My comment sits there (from Egil) awaiting moderation which is in itself an outstanding fact for me to get that message. Most often, my comments disappear without trace.

Keywords in Name cannot be to blame here. I have tried a lot, with and without keywords, the outcome is very much the same.

If you saw the blog I mentioned in my previous post, all s..t is being accepted there in Name. But my comment just vanishes

I approved your comment before I even knew it was you. (I'm sure Preacher appreciates your vote!) I think my standards are probably tougher than some: a commenter has to give some indication they actually read the article.

So I'm at a loss to explain your experience. On the other hand, I don't go back to blogs to see if my comment was posted, and I don't keep track, so perhaps my record is as poor as yours.

As for the time thing, smart bloggers use bullet points and summarize each paragraph in a heading, so you can just run your eye down the headings, pick one that intrigues you, and comment on that.

I'm with Josh: people visit people.

I think you are spending far too long on writing comments if it takes you 15-45 minutes.

You really shouldn't be spending more than a couple minutes to put together a useful comment, especially since you've had such trouble.

As Fluff mentioned above, some blogs will not accept the comment if the keyword is in your Name field. So try seeing what others are doing and replicate. Put the keyword in the text field when necessary.

Hope this will help you out.

yes one of our niches blog comments far outpulls sales than another other traffic tactic, yes even paid traffic.

I just think its still a great way to make money doing this.

We do not do this, we just outsource this to english speaking people. But we test them first. Make them do say 15 comments and we test them to see how long it took an the quality of the comment.

Then we rehire the good commentors that put in the hard work. And do not touch the people that give us poor stuff.

We have literally created a business from the ground up and build huge lists from blog commenting alone. It depends on your niche but I guess. Like I said for our one niche, blog commenting works better than anything else. ITs a great way to not only to get traffic, but highly targeted traffic, and if you send them to a nice sales page with good copy. Whammo.... you will see GOOD RESULTS.

        Just my 2 cents worth.

Sharrydan... do you use a Gravatar showing a picture of yourself? When moderating my own comments I pay close attention to comments without pictures of people, because often spammers.

And keep the keywords out of the name, unless the blog is KeywordLuv enabled. That's another spammer signal.

Blog commenting has been a major part of my IM strategy from day 1.

But I only post comments to blogs that are relevant to my niche. I can't speak for everyone, but that's what works for me 100% of the time. My comments stick and I've made some awesome friends along the way.

If you're going to spend all that time writing comments, then at least post to blogs where your customers are. Trust me, it works.

Dahlia Valentine - can you make a Gravatar for every niche?

Yes, but it is easy to get sidetracked and spend too much time on others sites and not developing your own.

Also - you might try commentkahuna.com - a free resource. Also try the phrase "powered by soapblox" in conjunction with your niche.

Yes, but it is easy to get sidetracked and spend too much time on others sites and not developing your own.

You can make a separate Gravatar for each e-mail address. Then depending on the site you're commenting on you just use the appropriate e-mail address.

Blog commenting is as simple as leaving a 1 paragraph comment, that takes me 5 minutes to write. It's not like I'm writing a full-fledged article.

Besides, I comment to generate traffic and make connections with other bloggers, so for me it's worth the work.

Yes, as you move along you should become more familiar with the process. I still think you're spending way too long.

Next post you do, just graze the main topic and add something appreciative about the post and reference the topic slightly but you do not need create some profound insight or anything.

        Just keep it simple.

And also one thing that might help is to see what the date was of the last accepted post.

Sometimes you will find blogs have posts of many accepted comments that obviously have keywords in them and some may even look like spammy comments.

But the administrator will shut off accepting comments and will never accept your comment no matter what.

So if you see the last comment accepted is 1 year ago then either skip this or leave a pretty simple comment and do not spend much time on it at all, since the likelyhood of it being accepted could be pretty slim.

        I hope this helps!

Depending on how many comments you have made using keyword as name akismet may have already flagged you as a spammer so now it won't matter what you put unless you change ip and email address.

Hmmm. That is wierd that your name doesn't show up..

Blog commenting is definitely something that I do for 4 Reasons:

    1. Back-links. Whenever you post a comment on someone’s blog, you are creating a back-link to your site! The more back-links, the merrier! Google absolutely loves back-links, meaning you should love back-links!

    2. Traffic. Through commenting on highly trafficked blogs, you can open the doors for that traffic to trickle to your blog! (I have done some blog commenting on several TOP earners in the industry and have received TONS of traffic from it because I was on their front page for “recent comments” for 2 days!)

    3. Friendship/Connections. By giving positive comments and feedback, you engage with the author (and sometimes other viewers) and you begin establishing trust and friendship! This is one of the most vital keys to being successful online! This is a PEOPLE based business! People join YOU! Not your BUSINESS!

4.Learning.The best part about this entire process is that you will be able to learn from other people! You will be able to expand your knowledge of marketing tactics other people are using, see what your competition is doing, and learn what NOT to do. lol. (I have encountered some really bad blogs in my time and whenever I see those, I tell myself I will never do that..)

Keep commenting and let's ROCK it out!

Not quite, but I hear you. It is demanding, and it isn't easy. And it's essential to target relevant sites, and to make comments which genuinely add value. And all of that is time-consuming.

But very worthwhile, because you can get relevant backlinks out of it (as well as other potential benefits mentioned by others above). And that's really valuable, regardless of page-rank.

Originally Posted by sharrydan View Post

Ooh, well, I admit I'm doing a little better than that ... I estimate one per hour (maybe sometimes one per hour-and-a-half) for a very valuable backlink.

But when you think that the link-juice of that backlink can easily be worth the link-juice of 100,000 non-context-relevant, PR-0 article directory backlinks, it's still a very good deal.

I have no "quick solution" for you. Just the observations that (i) it does get easier when you get more used to it; and (ii) it can be worth taking "probable ease/difficulty of blog commenting" into account in choosing your niches.

    Visu labu!

  • I just left a comment on someone's blog and as is so often the case, he was using Disqus.

It occurred to me that Disqus may be able to block IPs by country and they may be blocking Latvia.

Perhaps you should try commenting via a proxy server and see if you get better results.

I am surprised that you can't find good 'dofollow' blogs in your niche (health), I found health one of the easiest ones. If you can't find pure health blogs, broaden the search to include general blogs with pages about health, they will be seen as related as well.

Thank you, your comments gave me an invaluable thread. Even though I cannot imagine why any system would want to block my country, I cannot exclude such a possibility.
I am more inclined though to think that this can be something connected with my ISP. When I strain my memory, I can remember that I had e-mail problems a few years ago that turned out to be caused by their IP being blacklisted in some spammer blacklist...
But I would never have come to this idea on my own if you had not written...

I have not come really into the habit to watch the relevancy. What I have read from IM experts, they are about 50/50 as regards the importance of relevancy. So I have not been really stretching myself for relevancy. I am, after all, quite new to this stuff, so I am just trying to beat my hand a little commenting here and there
But I managed nevertheless to get a bit discouraged by seeing how seldom my comments stick or get approved, and I really doubt that those disappearing ever come up to any moderator. Most likely not.

Ooh, I've read and talked to different experts (easily done!) ... "mine" are 90% that relevance matters.

Well ... I'm not convinced about this (though you may be right, of course). But can it possibly be that this "relevance" issue will also significantly increase the proportion accepted? Worth trying, perhaps?

I sometimes do blog commenting, but I'm going to respond from the perspective of a blog owner, as I have quite a few and am constantly moderating. I delete at least 90% of the comments -most are blatant spam. I'm sure this is typical. Yet this fact can work in your favor, as the bar is set pretty low when it comes to the quality of blog comments. Even one or two coherent sentences that have some relevance to the blog are a welcome relief! Another thing I look at is the URL. I don't like comments that link to irrelevant sites or affiliate links, as I feel this does my own site more harm than good.

Nor on my sites will comments with no relation to the content ever see daylight.

On the other hand, if you have read at least a couple of sentences, and you have, let the least important, thing to say about that, I will let your comment pass.

I am not too particular about the links either. If the comment content is relevant to my page, I don't care whether your link is relevant or not. And I do not care even whether you are a competitor or not. If you give a relevant comment to my blog, you deserve your link and you go with that.

What remains for me to find out is how to make the links do-follow for my commentators on the Wordpress platform. I really want to allow them do-follow. But I want some easy way to do that without tons of plugins and things.

Can anybody show me how to do that?

I am not too particular about the links either. If the comment content is relevant to my page, I don't care whether your link is relevant or not. And I do not care even whether you are a competitor or not. If you give a relevant comment to my blog, you deserve your link and you go with that.

What remains for me to find out is how to make the links do-follow for my commentators on the Wordpress platform. I really want to allow them do-follow. But I want some easy way to do that without tons of plugins and things.

Can anybody show me how to do that?

My best suggestion for you is to create a list of websites related to your niche, and which provide you facility of registration....So, after registration you will get your each comment listed...........And what about 15-45 minutes about a single comment.....I never spent more that 5 minutes posting a comment....

Yeb. It's good idea for you to search keyword on Google blog and then comment on the high rank blogs related to your needed keyword.

My take - if you are good at this blog commenting strategy, like doing it, and enjoy making friends along the way - great - continue.

If you're not good at it, or it takes too long, and no friends are being made - and no comments are getting approved - then by all means - try outsourcing that job.

I value a lot your advice. I have seen these situations more than once, and I have figured out a conclusion like this. But your comment reinforces that idea and gives me some proof that that's the way things really work, and it is not only in my head where they exist.

I am glad I was able to help you out in this situation. That might be the major problem, that maybe you were going after blogs that simply weren't accepting any comments at the time.

By targeting blogs that you know for sure are accepting comments it will make you work much easier and be far more fulfilling.

Paul, that's what the problem is.

I am not able to comment where I know for sure the comments are accepted. I only see tons of comments before and after my attempt, but my own vanishes.

Today I'm following Fluff's advice and test commenting via proxies assuming that some systems might be banning my ISP or even my whole country.

I will write here about the results.

Ok. That would be good to test out.

If you do have a nice list of blogs and it still isn't working out for you then you can always go to Odesk and get some real quality people to do that for very inexpensive prices.

My maximum time of commenting on blogs is 3 to 4 minutes only cause I know majority of it will not be posted after you submitted it. I had also the same issue with you that's why from now on I don't really spend too much time on making relevant comments. I'd rather outsource this job rather than wasting my time contributing comments and not be posted anyway.

"Yet, on 90% of blogs, all my writings, each of which takes from 15 to 45 minutes, are simply gone as soon as I press the Submit button. And they never appear on the blog. The usual result that I see is comments before and after the date I have tried to post mine. And that's always the same, no matter how long I wait. My comments simply do not appear there even if I check back after a month or two."[CENTER][/CENTER

I was about to say that you are spreading yourself too thin, the situation is exactly opposite. You are not allowing enough diversity whilst wasting a lot of time. In 12 hours you could possibly create a podcast (if not 2-3) related to your article or a couple of videos that would actually be yours whilst not being on the mercy of other blog administrators. I am trying to backlink in such a way that I do not rely on other people too much for this.

I understand that decent blogs can really give you a good link juice, but I am not experienced enough (I think) to make significant contribution to my niche, ensuring that my post would stick.

If I was you, I would focus on what you doing, but a lot less. Maybe spend 2 hours a day, whist using a programme called Article Ideas or Tip Builder, they would search the net and find related information that you require that would help you making good comments or posts a lot quicker.

Spend the rest of the time creating a real diversity of your backlinks.

Start with three or four methods (lower quality article blasts, manual high quality article submissions, forum commenting + blogging). Then, when you are quite to speed in reaching your daily numbers for each, add another method.

I would bet that it's your country or ISP. Try a free proxy service (google "free proxy") and see if that helps.

You may find some success. I would try this on different niches, too. Just a couple thoughts.

I cannot say that commenting as such is any pain for me. I love doing comments, and I love visiting the sites of others.

But from now on, I will be writing comments only on my bedroom wall since that's the only place where they stick

Thank you, Peter. Nice strategy with a good deal of commonsense in it.

I was to your blog and even attempted to leave a comment. Let's see if you will find it some day.

Unfortunately, to be able to put to test that strategy, I need first to get my problem solved, the one for which I started this thread Or, I need at least some workaround (proxy is not an option for the existing sites since I am blacklisted with all my sites, e-mails and usernames)

            Hi Sharrydan,

Thanks for visiting my blog and yes I saw your comment, replied you and I approved it and it is there. So there is probably nothing wrong with what you are doing and it's just some bloggers who take longer to approve your comments. My advice to you is find some blogs that are relevant to your niche and try to make yourself belonging to that blogging community. By that I mean visit the other bloggers who have commented on the same post as you. In no time you will have a good number of good blogs to regularly post your comments. And after a while you will know who are the better bloggers who approved their comments quickly. Then move on to others and do the same because link diversity is very important. You want to get as many different backlinks from different blogs and IPs because Google values that.

            Peter

              Peter,

So you are saying it was not even marked as spam or something? That's in itself an outstanding fact. Even though this is not the first instance when I am able to comment easily on those blogs with owners of which I have been in touch one way or the other

But, Peter, once you are here, please let me share with you a little of my blog commenting experience in hope that you would comment a little on that.

              1. There are lots of blogs where, after pushing the Post button, the comment just vanishes like into an abyss. No message about moderation, nothing. On this type of blogs, my comment Never appears whether I check back after 3 months or half a year. That's for me a clear 100% loss. Is it about the same for you?

              2. About 1 out of 20 blogs that display the Moderation message after posting the comment, ever approve them. (I never spam, I have done so far not more than 5 - 7 experiments with keywords in the name field all on the blogs where there have been thousands of keyword names before, I never do keyword in the name on blogs where I do not see them being used). Could this rate be about the same also for you?

              3. Then there are the so called Auto approve blogs. About 10% of them allow me to comment freely. But about 90% of them reject me, and that feels really funny.

Even if there are multitudes of "off-topic" comments rolling in the same day before and after my comment attempt, mine is not there.

I did these experiments on one of such blogs:

              1. I commented using a fake username, fake e-mail and a URL from one of the earlier "Nice post, thanks!" comments. I did that commenting via a proxy, and I was well off.

              2. After a few days, I commented as in (1.) without proxy. The comment was rejected. I opened that blog via proxy again and tried to comment with another fake username, fake e-mail and the same Url, and that comment was rejected.

              3. I tried to comment via proxy with a fake username, fake e-mail and a link to my own site - Rejected.

              4. Fake username, fake e-mail, another URL from earlier comments with proxy - Accepted!

              5. Same as (4.) without proxy - Rejected (several days in between)

              6. Same as (4.) with proxy again - Rejected (several days in between)

From the above said, I conclude that I am still in some strange unequal situation that impairs my commenting ability a lot.

              Looking forward to your opinion.

                Hi Sharrydan,

I've got to be honest with you. I don't too much blog commenting nowadays and yes I did experience some of these strange going ons with some blogs in the past - probably due to their plugins used or how the owner chose to set up. But I usually don't fret too much about it. I don't over-analyse things as there are just too much to do besides blog commenting. I just moved on to others when I meet with these incidents. Before I comment on a blog I usually look at whether there are other commenters as well as if the blog owner actively participate in the discussion. Perhaps that will help you filter out some of these problems you are experiencing. And if you still encounter them, then send a quick note to the blog owner to get his attention.

                Peter

I think rather than going for blog commenting one can go for guest blogging. This is a very effective way for building backlinks. Blogs allowing comments with backlinks are too spammy and not worth indeed. You can find many high PR blogs that allow you to post guest blogs.

Thank you! That sounds smart. That must be also really easy to implement.

But, alas, not for me again.

Without proxy, I do not even have access to those blogs.

When I use proxy, my comments just keep vanishing, as I have seen that happen only too many times.

Meanwhile, I can watch comments from others roll in right after my attempt.

Avoid any keywords or links in your comments.

Blog commenting can reap great rewards if you truly are making a contribution. A blog which utilizes CommentLuv is even better, because it allows you to select which of your own posts gets mentioned.

But don't give up on blog commenting. Even one good one can motivate people back to you. Concentrate on quality rather than quantity.

Spamming won't work either, as most experienced bloggers have preventions in place, such as Akismet plug-in (I do).

      Cheers

No, a proxy does not appear to be a solution either. That must be some magic spell.

While there are some few places where I can comment, I cannot do that where most people can.

Even when I use proxy, my comments just vanish while I watch a couple or three rolling in behind me. It gives me such an awkward feeling!

They vanish even when I comment with my real name and without adding any links.

Obviously, I will have to resign to the thought that blog commenting is something far beyond my scope even though I would have loved it.

        Hi Premiumlinks!

I have spent many days doing research and trying to figure out what is wrong with my backlink building techniques. And I found that I have been hit by something that I call "avalanche blacklisting", most likely because of the country I live in and work from.

It means that anyone, be it human or robot, will get blacklisted immediately when they press Submit button for a comment containing a link to my site. When it happens, they will no longer be able to comment blogs, and even some forums will start denying them profiles.

It is a dark total blacklisting that covers all - IP address, e-mail, URL and even the username.

I don't know what that system is, but I know only too well how it manifests itself.

So are you saying that Scrapebox will be able to get through all those blocks and comment on my behalf? You must be joking, are you not?

Can Akismet be installed also on other platforms apart of Wordpress? I shunned the idea actually when I found that I cannot get through also to blogs on other platforms.

But maybe I should not have done that?

In my late experiments, I find that I can comment with a fake name and some other url. But only when I am behind a proxy.

This might well mean that... hmm... both my name, web address, email, and IP, and perhaps even the IP of my ISP - all have been banned? I may only wonder for what.

I have been experimenting with keywords in the name, that's true. But only on sites where there is a ton of such accepted earlier.

But - thank you! I'm now back to the Akismet - if Akismet is a multi platform thing... Because I find that I am able to comment if I hide everything that's true about me.

I have read that Akismet may ban any of those fields. From email to url to IP. Depending on the level of "spam" originating from you.

          Lutzi,

It appears a chain reaction has taken place. Apparently, the IP had been blacklisted by some reason. When I tried to comment via that, I got my name, e-mails, web addresses and everything tarnished in the eyes of Akismet or whatever the system is.

That explains a lot. Thank you.

Some blogs have comment moderation on so your comment may not show. Many links in comments will automatically have the nofollow attribute and does not have power. If I'm wrong correct me. Pluses for me are: traffic and blog commenting as a indexing tool.

The thing with blog commenting ideally is to find a do-follow blog, and ensure that the blog is relevant to your niche, then add a meaningful comment with a link back to your site, ensure that the comment is meaningful or else the admin will simply remove it/or not allow it on their site

sharrydan i am just a seo noob and really very new to SEO but still want to share some tactics that i follow to get comments =)
you have been answered by many of SEO experts here and what i have observed from their answers is that they are no doubt 100% right but what i want to suggest you is to try these techniques too that i do for my self to get blog comments + dofollow links as well =)
As already Dahlia Valentine told you to use your keyword as name if a blog is keywordluv blog then you got your link for sure dude =) Secondly try searching for blogs that use these plugins in wordpress "Keywordluv" CommentLuv" & Top Commentator Plugin recently i was commenting on a blog call increddiblogger its a PR 4 blog and have that top commentator plugin install so whn i had commented their relevant to their topic so they were approved also once they are approved the blog owner start trusting you and your comments will get auto approve there and your site will be on their main page for a week or month the site i was talking about is PR 4 and i got my link there now you should try it too

"Keyword" "this site uses keywordluv" or "SEO Tips" "this site uses Commentluv" "SEO Tips" "Top Commentator" you will surely get relevant blogs that will also approve your comments i hope so =)

i have wrote SEO Tips because SEO Bloggers usually use them so you will get a chance to at least have your link on a irrelevant website but still a link is a link and if its a do follow link i don't think so its a bad idea at least it will help u increasing your PR =)

It has proved true that, whenever I try to comment with my IP, I get banned. And this ban distributes momentarily on my name, e-mail address and the website I try to link to. If I am careful enough to always comment with a new pen name, new e-mail (fake accepted very happily) and link to a domain that has not been used in direct commenting, I am very well off.

The system working like this, see what a powerful weapon I have against competitors?

You better be kind to me, or I will just comment somewhere and include your link. And with that, your blog commenting will be done.

That's a joke, of course. But it shows how stupid at times can such spam filtering services be.

The way I do blog commenting is simple.

1 - I ALWAYS read the post, so the comment makes sense and actually adds something to the thread. This obviously means I comment manually.

2 - As for the anchor text in the link, I let the post itself tell me what to do: if I see other comments with keywords in the anchor, I might use it. If I only see names, I'll use a name or at least try something like name @ keyword.

Yes, Sammy, that's exactly what I mean. I live in Latvia and learn the IM the hardest way possible. I spend days and nights just finding all kinds of workarounds. But those workarounds are themselves as tough as only can be.

I have done a thorough research. I now have enough evidence to tell you that I fall victim of a terrible, terrible, terrible system that is stupid as the devil itself.

Do you have enemies? A competitor whom you would like to destroy? Just give me their URL. I will post a comment using that URL, and they will be done for good.

See, when I use that URL in my comment, it gets inevitably blacklisted by that system whatever it might be. When that site owner will try to comment next time with a link to that URL, they will "contaminate" their name or screen name, e-mail and IP address. When they now try to comment using another URL, that URL too will get "contaminated". And so on.

That person won't be able to comment blogs any longer, and even not able to register a profile on certain forums. They will be pretty sure out of the game so that not even a Fiverr miracle worker will be able to help them. I only don't know if that's for lifetime or not...

So let's make a deal: I destroy your competitors, you comment on my behalf with link to my new "clean" site from your "clean" country?

I hope you understand that this is only such gallows type humor. I never do harm to anyone and prefer to put up with abuse than to make others suffer. Only I feel now really discouraged and sad. Meeting everywhere just roadblocks and roadblocks without any, however small, success makes me feel tired to death.

Even the friendly advice "never give up" sounds like mockery.

But now I have found out how it works, and that is at least something.

If I cannot make my living, I will make everyone pay for not posting comments on their behalf - oh, that's gallows again.

Keep it simple, enjoy every step you take and have a good day.

Blog commenting is one of the best 2nd tier type of links you can build, among the others such as press release, articles, social bookmarking, etc.....they're good in that you can get on a page with rank, however the limitations are that, comments are often deleted, not approved, pages with rank are spammed to death causing juice dilution, often they're not do-follow, often you can't insert your anchor text and the link won't be surrounded with relevant content related to your website, so whilst yes they don't hurt to have for link diversity, I wouldn't develop a link building strategy with blog commenting as my main pillar.

The only blogs that allow back link comments are full of spam, and so why even bother? I very much doubt that these are benefical enough to spend your time doing. I post on forums to promote my site, I haven't noticed hardly any change in my rankings from it, I would suggest that you pay individual people to write articles, or blog posts about your site, or guest blog, and only on sites that don't allow spam comments. I've removed comments altogether from my site.

I don't really hit many blogs with comments. I find commenting on just a few blogs I really like to be more effective. Once you've been accepted into a blog's community, you can pretty much get a free link every time you contribute to the conversation without worrying about being flagged as a spammer.

The best part, is that if you enjoy the blog, you will actually have something to say.

No, I'm not sick on commenting.

And, actually, I do not talk about commenting here, either. I just chose that 'blog commenting' as a most speaking illustration to my problem.

I am sorry for failing to make myself clear

Thank you for all your comments!

No, I am not sick on commenting, and the story is not that much about commenting as such than about that terrible feel of being blocked.

I find a nice blog with fresh comments. I spend some time and write, to the best of my understanding, a nice comment, click Submit. That comment vanishes. The next day I see even newer comments, but mine is not there.

I move on to the next nice blog, submit - it vanishes.

I move to the next - vanishes.
I move to the next - vanishes.
I move to the next - vanishes.....

I write an article, a nice fresh new article. I go to an article site and try to submit. There comes something a la 'Please correct the following: null'. I revise the article, rehash, remove each and every link from author box even if they are allowed, press Submit - the same error.

I move on to the next article site - very similar outcome.

I create forum profiles with no links, no signatures, nothing. I verify the links from the e-mails and am able to log on to my new profile. When I come back within a couple of days, they are gone, those profiles.

I am not saying that this happens in 100% situations. There are some spaces in between, oh yes, there are. About 10% roughly. See this forum, for example

Did I say that I was getting tired?

So I asked myself a question whether pushing forward in IM is as hard for everyone? Was that the real cost of success? Or, maybe, only those are successful who manage to find a way round?

What if that had something to do with my personality? There could well be some small catches every place that everyone else sees and acts on but I am not seeing them so I fall trough the sieve?

...or what, what on earth that could be?

Having listened to what warriors say, and having done some research here and there, I conclude with great relief that the problem does not follow my personality. It seems to be following either my ISP's gateway IP or, however sad it may sound, my country of residence.

I now plan to build a new 'identity' for myself with everything new - e-mails, websites, screen name etc. And I will try to remember to always use proxy whenever I submit something.

I will be back here to let you know how it works.

        Thanks again.

I like that no one mentioned blog commenting doesn't increase rankings, that shows you're on the right track. Here's my experience with blog comments:

There are 3 types of blog comments:
    1. white hat
    2. grey hat
    3. black hat

Black hat is using automated software programs to get unrelated links from unrelated sites back to your site. This is effective if you're going for very uncompetitive terms (typically under 5,000 monthly searches and low commercial intent)

Grey hat is using human outsourcers to post comments on blogs (or you can be doing this yourself), for the sole purpose of building backlinks. This is effective for medium competition keywords (under 45,000 monthly searches). It is more effective when you post on related sites. You can find related blog pages to comment on with the Authority Codes.

White hat is commenting on related, or semi-related blogs. Joining in the conversation and genuinely adding value. This is effective for competitive keywords (under 110,000 searches/month). Especially effective when you find high PR related pages to leave these comments on. Note: these links will always help. As the Google algorithm gets better they will diminish the power of the previous links, but these will remain a ranking factor.

Bottom line to SharryDan, if you're spending that long to do quality blog comments you need to outsource it.

Yes, I've used that as well but sometimes I tend to forget doing this extra step especially if I'm in the mood of doing lots of commenting. But when it happens I try to use the 'Back' button and take a look if I've done something wrong. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Well try that if you're in similar situation. You may get lucky.

Yet, on 90% of blogs, all my writings, each of which takes from 15 to 45 minutes, are simply gone as soon as I press the Submit button. And they never appear on the blog. Do they really win big doing so? My comment would be free content for them.

But spam is easy to segregate, is it not? Get some captcha type plugin and you have blocked 100% of black hat comments. Gray hat comments, those done with copy-paste method by a human, never come in large numbers. Just don't approve them, that's all.

To my experience, you got to pick 'good' blogs; low outbound links, pages with pr (1-5 is not hard to find), and what I believe is very, very important, using related pages to your keyword phrase/word.
