Help - My Squidoo Lens is Outranking My Main Site

For the longest time I have had #1 SERP in Google for my main keyword phrase. Unfortunately, a Squidoo lens that I created for SEO purposes has been steadily creeping up and now is in #1, with my main site in #2. Ack!

I've looked and cannot find a way to unpublish or hibernate a Squidoo lens. I know that what I need to do long-term is build more backlinks to my main site so that it becomes stronger than my Squidoo lens, but is there anything I can do in the meantime to fix this?

Related question: I notice there is a "delete account" button at Squidoo. If I delete my account will it also delete the offending lens? Or do existing lenses stay?

Just build some more links to your site. Have you been building links to the squidoo site?

Another thing, you could probably edit the lens and remove the keyword from the title and stuff. I don't know much about squidoo lenses though.

    Hi,
You should be able to unpublish your lens. Open it, click edit, and then save draft.
    That will un-publish it.
Maybe if you put it in draft, build some more links to your website, and then re-publish it, it'll come back to spot #2.
    Good luck.

So that means you own the top 2 spots. I fail to see the problem. Isn't that a good thing?

Your squidoo lens is helping your SEO efforts for your website. If you remove the lens, it will negatively impact your site.

Just work on getting more links to your main site, but don't worry about the lens.

Personally, I've actually had paying customers come in through my lens, and I wouldn't change a thing!

Why on earth would you delete a squidoo lens that is #1?
That makes no sense at all. None.

You use squidoo to funnel traffic to your other site.

Repeat: Why would you delete a site that is #1?

There is no guaranty that the other site will be #1.
The squidoo lens will still show up for a long time...

Repeat: Why would you delete a site that is #1?

          That's crazy.

squidoo is a powerhouse. Use it to your advantage.

I think that the problem is not that Squidoo Lens is ranking too well but your site is not ranking well enough. If your site is up there already anyway in the search results then it should be not too difficult to overtake the Lens, few quality links might just do it.

That's some of the most idiotic advice I've ever heard anyone give on here. Sure, go ahead. Delete the lens that is #1 in google!

      That would be nuts.

Utilize it to your advantage and enjoy the #1 & #2 rankings.

    What a funny case like
you were first and you came second and your squidoo lens came first......hahahaa that's more than funny. Now you must be having a big problem with your lens and the best thing to do is to go back to squidoo and remove your lens or change its keywords and so, after sometime when google will review it will again make you at #1

Build more links FROM the lens TO the site. More outgoing links on the lens weakens it a little. More incoming links to the site strengthens it a little. This way you pass the link juice from the lens to the site, and if it works right, the site goes back to #1 and the lens goes to #2.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I would never let a Squidoo Lens rank higher in the SERPs than any of my sites pages.

Defeats the whole point of having a website of your own.

I myself would not care and use it as a powerful traffic funneler.
Just think of the the links one gets. And make money at the
      same time.

But as someone pointed out above in a similar fashion, I would doubt
it ranks for anything a real person would search for in a real setting.
Doing a unique keyword search can give results like this. The power
of squidoo. But do a longer tail real life keyword, and it changes the
      whole outcome.

Don't delete it BUT definitely try to outrank it. Having the 2 top spots (with your site at #1) is awesome. Why would you wanna ruin that?

Silly question. How are you determining that the Squidoo lens is outranking your site?
Are you logging out of google and clearing your browsers history and cache? Because if you are not, you are not getting the true picture of the rankings and you might be on a wild goose chase trying to fix something that isn't broken.

1.Keep building links to your main site.
2.Edit your Squidoo lens and make sure that links to your site are prominently in your first article or advertisement on your lens.
3.Be happy that you now own the top 2 spots for your keyword...

You do NOT have a problem, my friend.

BTW, what is the PR of your Squidoo lens? My guess is it's a least a PR3. Can you imagine the link juice if used properly? I would not mess with that lens.

Keep building links to your site like everyone else has said. Have your Squidoo lens point to your site as well, but make it more obvious than it currently is.

    Hi,

I was wondering if someone could answer a couple questions for a noob:

    1. GWT tells me that I have a 7.4 avg position for one of my keyword phrases but when I query in Google...I cant' even find it.

    2. I bought a niche blog template from an online place...well, some one else did as well...back in 2009, lol. Here's my issue. That blog has not been touched since posted back 09, ZERO content..nothing. So, why does he rank above me? wtf

    3. My site is bloggingdudes.com his site is dadzworld.com...it's not even lived in. I'm getting frustrated because when I first put my site up..it was ranked. Now, I have added 37 posts of fresh, original content...and it dropped off. I don't know wth is going on. Please help!

Just checked out your site.. Great start.

      1) Don't obsess about where you are; keep adding value and doing what you should be doing (social media, some backlinks, etc) and it will all work out.

      2) I suggest you STOP that popup on every single page. It's downright annoying. If you want it to popup right away (which I think is a bad idea) or popup after 20-30 secondes, fine.. but every time someone moves around your site? Absolutely not.
