When to delete keywords to increase CTR???

I just did a search on my account & noticed that there's keywords that have sat hidden in my account quite a while & they have never generated a conversion. If this is the case should I delete them?

Here's my stats:
Max CPC $0.05
Clicks 195
Impressions 11,706
CTR 1.67%
Avg. CPC $0.30
Cost $59.16
Avg. position 7.66
Conversions 0

So is this telling me that over a long time I've had 195 clicks on this specific keyword, but NEVER made a sale on it & therefore, it's driving down not only my CTR for this ad campaign but also my entire Adwords account?
What's the break even point for keywords when you should keep or delete them?

Thanks,

  • Well your CTR is above 1.5% so it won't drive down your account too much. Anything below that and you could hurt your ad history and account history, plus Google will probably increase your CPC...

How are your tracking conversions? Do you have a tracking pixel on the thank you page for that particular keyword?

Generally I like to get between 200 and 300 clicks before I make a decision.

Anything above that and it will be hard to make a profit.

Are you direct linking? If so unless you have killer targeted keywords you'll be hard pressed to make a conversion in 200 to 300 clicks.

    Good luck...

    • I failed to mention that the date range on this was 2003 to 2009!!! That's why I was freaked out a bit. I want to go through my account & purge things like this to increase CTR.
    • I agree. I use the same method.
  • Get rid of it.
If it isn't make you any money then it is a waste of money
