Keyword Density Questions

Hello all,

I'm a newbie here ... been lurking for awhile and I tell you, I like this forum.

Anyway, I've checked my website's keyword density on some different free online tools and I get significantly different results from the sites.

One tool (sorry, I'm new and can't post links yet) gives me a KWD of 7.2 without checking keywords and 8.26 if I check keywords.

Another gives me 10.49 when I check meta, alts and title and 8.26 with no options checked.

A third gives me 4.53 checking title and description.

SEOPressor shows 5.51

Help! Which one do I believe?

These differences got me thinking ... what exactly should be checked when KWD is calculated and then exactly how is it done mathematically? I found 2 (significantly) different answers on this.

Wikipedia says is (NumberOfWordsInKW * Keyword Count)/WebsiteTextCount while a couple of other sites say it's just Keyword Count/WebsiteTextCount

Do the search engines look at the html code or the text displayed on the site?

Should KWD include the Title and Description?

How about alt tags and meta keywords?

I'm just pretty confused about it and while I know it's not a huge factor in getting good rankings, I'm just like a bulldog with a bone on this. I just really need answers to satisfy my curiosity.

I'd really appreciate it if we could get a comprehensive thread going on this.

Thank you,

Susan

Mainly 2 to 3% is considered as good means out of 100 words you can repeat it 2 or 3 times.
But I always advice to be not more than 1 time . If you have content on your site of around 500 words than try to include just 4 to 5 times.

I'd suggest from 3-5. Don't go less than 3 also not beyond 5. You don't need any smart tool to check the density. Ctrl+F (keyword) will do the magic. Just post the content in MS word..it will show u the word count. By Ctrl+F you can see how many times your keyword comes in the article.
Also there is one concept that you need to look for. It's called keyword prominence and keyword placement. You might wanna dig into these two points as well.
In nut shell..not just the keyword density but WHERE in page keyword is placed and WHO ARE IT'S NEIGHBOR it also matter.
