Is SEO still needed even after getting position #1 in google? The competition does nothing at all in the way of SEO so wouldnt I just need to rank then drop future SEO and pretty much stay in place?? or maybe even every other month.
#google #seo

I would suggest that you continue the SEO because if you have been getting a steady stream of links over the past months (or however long you have been doing it) and then all of a sudden you get no new links, that doesn't look natural in Google's eyes and could raise a flag.

Also, if you competitors start doing more SEO or a new competitor comes in and does SEO you could easily lose your ranking.

You may not need to do as much as you did to get to #1 but definitely do not stop altogether.

Yes I agree with you. If I'm not mistaken any sites with #1 ranking could lose in just a day or two without maintaining it.

Just build a few links per month, just have an autopilot campaign set up.

Yes you need to continue to build 'maintenance' backlinks. If not, you competitors might not be waiting for you and building more and more links. They could then surpass you and your ranking would drop after some time.

Well the truth of the matter is....My competition must not be doing anything because I havent either and I just started...and Im already in the mix with them....I have very basic info on a temporary site.....I plan on doing SEO when I get my Main site up and running (e-commerce) This is just so much to take in on top of my other end of the business.....I would like to find someone who is good at management of the SEO end of things.....someone who knows what there doing too. I think my keyword rich domain gets me into good positions.....to be honest I think I can get #1 in several keywords because they dont work it any from best I can tell.

What is the best platform to use for an e-commerce site? keeping SEO and a cart in mind?

Magento would be the best for SEO and cart, hands down. Even though I love Joomla with the virtuemart extension, magento wins hands down overall.

What to do after reaching #1... uhh DUH! Get #1 for more keywords! Continue building your empire, why settle? Plus, you never know when google is going to be strange or do something that hurts you, so you might as well try to capitalize on as much as possible. Keep moving forward. If you rank #1 for every keyword you want, then focus on maintaining that but using other avenues to drive traffic as well.

Ranking means nothing... traffic means everything.

Lol this is a good question- I recently got my site to #1 for its target kw- now I am afraid to do anything else to it ( i know -paranoid)

I think that i will follow the maintenance backlink advise and add fresh content fairly regularly.

    Of course.

Not on nearly as large of a scale. But it's still important to maintain. You'll have plenty of new competition in the near future. Even if it seems like your existing competition is stale.

If you are already ranking for a major term, keep building links but now target related keywords.

I am doing this and it is working great for me

yep,you need SEO your site as before.
google #1 could generate some traffic but not all the traffic.
some sites like squidoo, hubpages could even bring some orders directly.

My competition is low...there are a small handful of companies that make this product and they have other products as well....Im pretty much the only one who will concentrate on it directly....I invented it.....and will market it. The other products are leaving a huge gap on the table....Im filling it.

What is involved in SEO?....I want to source it out but dont like to have the wrong company do it....Ive had quotes across the board from $200 mo to $2000 a month....whats up with that?

I wouldn't use a company to do it. Just buy link packages individually from sellers here on WF or on fiverr. You say it's low competition so $20 worth of links each month from fiverr should keep you sorted.

yup youll need it unless you have a good site that people will naturally link to.

its harder to get back up once your competition smokes you and sends you to the second page.

I was lazy for a lot of my sites before. I paid for it lol, in both earnings and time. Dont want to let that happen again

I think u should continue building backlinks. Even though I have noticed after #1 rank when I stopped building backlinks to my clients sites no problem at all. But I will say it will be more natural if u continue building some backlinks.

u can build backlinks regularly by spending just 15 usd each month. U can hire 3 different type of gigs(I mean blog, profile, web 2.o backlinks) at fiverr and regularly build backlinks to ur site.

Also sometime use some article submission, press release submission, directory submission etc. gigs too. it will help ur site to get more traffic too. Just spending 1 hour and 15 USD u can easily do it and help ur site to stay on #1 for such a long time.

    Hey Darren,

No matter which position you have achieved, in order to maintain it and to be at top you will have to continue the SEO process may be a bit slower but it should not stop. Today there is competition in every field so you need to be careful too from your closest competitors as they are just behind you.

Yeah agreed with the comments.. The SEO process is a regular process.. ranks are not stationary, if you stop working for the website, your competitors wont, and thus you'll see a downfall in the rankings.. Remember, you have reached on top position by pulling someone down.. vise-verse is also applicable..

Keep on optimizing your site as you may get #1 for one keyword, but there are so many related keywords. Are all these keywords ranked #1?? Furthermore, like above guys said, you site for this keyword may be dropped for lots of reasons such as new competitors join in, existed competitors beat you or Google dislike it.

As said, if you rank #1 on one keyword, go for another keyword.. But i suggest you still continue building links on your top keyword.
