Why did exact match domain get penalized?

I had an exact match domain ranking on page one for the keyword in my domain with no backlinks to it. Then I started using article marketing robot to build links to it and now that site is not in the first 20 pages of google.com for that keyword. The site did not get deindexed. It just got penalized severely for that keyword. Can anyone tell me why this happened?

You likely triggered some kind of automatic filter due to your backlinks; I've had the same experience more than once. If you keep building links, and working on the site, you will eventually get out of the filter.

      Depends on how severe.

However, it sounds like it may (hopefully) just be the Google dance. A sudden surge of backlinks will make your site dance around for a bit before it stabilizes again.

It's most likely the Google dance. Wait a few days it will most likely come back in a stronger position. Keep building links, but don't do it erratically

It can be the Google dance, eventually if you continue to build backlinks it will come back and stronger. Many sites experience this

You probably built all those links using the same anchor text. Mix it up a little, use some variations and your site will come back.

Most likely it is Google dance. I have built many many sites.

Believe me, there are some sites where I built a couple of links manually and didn't touch it for weeks. Later it dropped out of the rankings by itself, without me doing anything at the time ... go figure

It could be because of some recent link building that you have done. Let it go like this for a while, but don't stop with your link building. If Google is playing around with you,
it would see the links with value coming to your site and would eventually stop its Dance.
